Unlikely Productions' mission is to work across a variety of platforms and mediums to bring untold stories to Australian audiences. This production, for which we are seeking your support, will be the australian premiere of 'Stop Kiss' by Diana Son, an award-winning and widely acclaimed play. It will be presented with ATYP as part of the 2014 Under The Warf season.

When Callie, a twenty-something New York traffic reporter, promises to take on a cat owned by Sara, "some friend of an old friend of someone," she arranges to leave quickly after Sara drops off the cat to avoid being drawn into a dull evening with a stranger. Neither one could have predicted the connection that would form between these two, seemingly very different, and “straight’ women as they circle each other warily, nursing an unspoken attraction.

The play premiered Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in New York City in 1998 starring Sandra Oh and Jessica Hecht. The original run was extended three times due to popular demand and the play has since been produced by theatre companies across the US and the UK.

The Unlikely Productions team producing 'Stop Kiss' is made up of Charlotte Howley, Gabrielle Scawthorn and Briallen Clarke; three young theatre makers who met whilst studying at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). We are extremly excited to bringing this story to Sydney audiences and would appreciate your support to help make it happen!

How The Funds Will Be Used

This is a completely independent production that is being produced by three very passionate theatre makers. Our budget is very modest but inevitably there are expenses that cannot be avoided when producing theatre. Your support of our pozible campaign will help see some of those expenses covered. The $6000 we are seeking to raise will go towards hiring a rehearsal space ($1500), our set and costume budget ($2000) and will help to subsidise our advertising ($1500) and venue ($1000) costs.

The Challenges

The theatre can be an unpredictable mistress at times, so we have been careful to map out a budget that accounts for that unpredictability! With the ongoing assistance of our highly experienced producing mentors, we have prepared a budget that is both conservative, and maintains the level of flexibility required when producing independent theatre. Contingency plans are in place for when unexpected expenses arise and consistent reassessment of the budget will be common place throughout the production to ensure we remain on track.
