What's this about?

The Parlour community is facing sudden eviction in the midst of our most dynamic growth phase.

Casualty to gentrification & urban sprawl, The Parlour Studios property will soon be sold in a quick campaign. We need your help to anchor to a more secure ledge where creative professionals & community engagement can thrive, and not be sold at auction.

Why a campaign, what's the backstory?

Two years ago, The Parlour Studios began with a title search and a dream. There was not a gold coin of start up capital- the original lease was signed with the bonds of prospective tenants. But we built on fostering the kind of cultural activity & local relationships which would propel the project into becoming something long term. Although we’ve gotten this far, the venture cannot continue to climb sustainably without your help. Your role is to plant a little anchor in the rock so we may swing out to a more secure ledge.

At the crux of The Parlour's philosophy is the provision of a consistent public events program. Working alongside local community, we’ve built a highly-celebrated and valued program. For it to continue sustainably, we need to build capacity by employing a dedicated Public Programs Coordinator.

What's the money for exactly?

  1. A kickstart fund to hire a dedicated Public Programs Coordinator.

  2. A pivot fund to aid in establishing a new complex. This includes moving our current infrastructure & re-building (our newly launched) ‘Green Screen Cyclorama’.

What happens at The Parlour?

If you could divide 20 months into shards of a kaleidoscope you’d see: 38 tenants, gaggles of events & launches, night markets, film shoots, performances, masterclasses & workshops, international artists-in-residences, pirate radio, hand-crafted timber furniture, urban hikes, street press, cardboard galaxies, drag queens, cyclotropes & community BBQ's.

What's the Coordinator Position?

They will be dedicated to developing the capacity of the pubic program which includes:

%20 School holiday workshops & masterclasses

%20 International residency program

%20 The Second Line, a quarterly community celebration

%20 Social media, event publicity & audience development

%20 Building & tenant management

%20 Cyclorama bookings

%20 Continue to foster partnerships with local businesses and other civic centres

%20 Grant submissions; to support public programs and the Coordinator position

What are the direct benefits of your support?
%20 Opportunities for education, professional development, and community engagement.
%20 Space for creative professionals to develop their businesses with low financial risk
%20 Great public events and activities to do in Preston!

The 'I' & the 'We'

We are a passionate syndicate of creative entrepreneurs and we are committed to collaborating with our local community through public events. This is the foundation of our cultural activity centre, where excellent work is being generated & people are accessible. It's an all-ages environment for our families & children, they are as at home here as the film shoots & woodworking.

The 'I' & the 'We' have been relational in the parlour model- it would be a pity to fall short of the next growth phase… which is imminent. We're on the cusp of becoming even more of a We.

The Second Line Event > December 1, 2012

On December 1st 2012, you are invited to attend the launch of this Pozible campaign. Come experience for yourself the style of public event The Parlour is now famous for. Look forward to meeting you personally.
