Let us tell you a story...

Night has fallen and the horse cannot ride any further.

A weary mercenary surveys his surroundings and decides that it is safe enough to rest for the night.

Amongst his scarce cargo is a little girl. 


SOLACE is the story of a mercenary and the young daughter of a nobleman, who both find a temporary peace from the day’s sufferings in a bedtime story. Having saved her from a kidnapping horde of bandits, Ralston finds himself responsible with keeping the young Almena safe. Almena, desperate to forget the trauma of her experience, wishes to escape into a world of stories. But Ralston has something more important than fairytales to tell Almena; her father has been killed in the attempt to save her.

This short film is an original and beautiful tale written and directed by Aimee Miller. At it's heart, it is a tale of the end of innocence, the power of knowledge and the strength of story-telling.  It is about the monsters that we assure our children do not exist. 

A short film with a vision this big doesn't exactly come cheap. We have been incredibly lucky in some of our resourcing, having already locked in horses, basic weapons and armour and a location. However, we are still looking to fund several important aspects of this film including:

Camera hire for 3 days - This camera must be of a high quality as we will be filming in an incredibly low light situation. 
Sound equipment hire for 3 days
Prop and costume hire 
Makeup
Transporting and feeding the cast and crew (this includes two horses)

The more money we raise, the more we can put towards making this film the best it can be.  We can add more elaborate scenes with a bigger bandit horde and longer choreographed fight sequences. More detailed and authentic costuming. More gory wounds and death scenes. Part of the budget will also go towards promotion of the film and entry into the festival circuit in 2015. 

This project poses a unique set of challenges. 

Our biggest challenge is going to be filming outdoors at night. On the upside, our location has easy access to a power source. However it is still going to be a challenge to light our forest location. A substantial part of the budget is going towards the hire of suitable lights to recreate moonlight. 

In terms of working with animals, we will have a professional horse trainer on set with us during the shooting hours.

Instead of hiring an actress under the age of 15 to play Almena, we have opted for a wonderful older actress who can confidently play a younger character.

The campfire that Almena and Ralston gather around, and any fire used throughout the fight sequences, are being controlled by an experienced fire warden/effects coordinator. 

As we will be using replica weapons and armour, an armorer will be on set at all times.
