"TROTSKY TAKES TO THE ROAD" is a mobile art project.
Within the project "Emmanuel" the very impassioned piano accordion playing owner of "Trotsky" offers himself and Trotsky to you as a taxi-like service in and around the Hobart region."Trotsky" is a 1968 Toyota Corona who is sadly in need of repair. "Trotsky" has spent much of his last few years in the hands of artists and visionaries. He was exhibited in Kelly's Garden as part of an art project in early 2012, and was handed down through raffles, mismatches, and final resorts, to myself....I am so thankful,as he is now 'the love of my life'. In this project I assemble the character "Emmanuel" from silk shirts, fern-fronds and any other wild vegetation at hand, and together, wielding an accordion we hit the streets of Hobart to provide transport and beguiling sounds to all those in need.
This service involves a combination and choice of exquisite delights, such as riding in the beautiful Trotsky through the streets of Hobart, being serenaded insitu by "Emmanuel" on a city jaunt, pledging to the project for a 'potential loved one' of your choice to be serenaded by "Emmanuel", being collected and serenaded with coffee, wine or Elder flower champagne in hand, or reveling in the fun of the "Trotsky Takes To The Road" postcard set.Over the 90 days, this project culminates in allowing "Trotsky" access to safe repair and a much wanted return to the roads for the journey to make 'ART' with myself in the Nillumbik Shire's Artist-In-Residence programme at Laughing Waters in Victoria in 2013. This is my first solo residency. The two months spent in the studio will also involve a six week series of art-on-the-streets workshops with young people in the area. So we are very excited, and looking forward to being able to keep "Trotsky" well and happy for the long journey, and creative miles spent so productively while on residency. The studio site is only accessible by car, so we really need "Trotsky" to help us out :). ....so......every little counts for us here, and will help keep "Trotsky" safely on the road and 'art' safely on our horizon, and the horizon of the streets of Nillumbik!!!
