'Beautiful, Terrifying, Powerful'
In Formation II will take you on a sensorial journey of the human condition where our desire for freedom is as powerful as our devotion to familiarity.
In Formation 2 is a 30 minute solo dance work to be performed in partnership with Melbourne Fringe Festival at Arts House Warehouse, North Melbourne Town Hall in less than 4 weeks time. It will be my first work (Choreographed and performed by me) of this length and the culmination of two years of thought, investigation and solo studio time.
Over the past two years i have become more and more fascinated by the possibility for human transformation and what it means to transform. As humans we have a great need to progress, or to feel we have progressed and yet most of us live in habit for the majority of our lives. We repeat our Behavioural patterns and we repeat the same experiences both individually and globally. This is the starting point of the work and it seems it is on a lot of peoples minds at present.
The show itself contains a series of dissolving realities and a level of tension that builds up and morphs over time. The aim of the work is that the audience experiences not only a visual transformation during the performance but a shift in their own perception and experience of reality. Is this possible? You will have to come to show and tell me after.
This work has been supported via Fresh Solution Space Residency at Liquid Skin Studio. The Victorian Ballet School in Fitzroy have also kindly provided a rehearsal space for the development of the work.
Aural design by SKAMP (Andrew, Seismo, grey areas, Silo).
Recently i also was mentored during a brief creation period of this work by Philippe Riera (founding memeber of SUPERAMAUS - FR). For the remaining 3 and 1/2 weeks the amazing Gareth Hart will be my outside eye.

There are many costs associated with making and presenting a show on your own. These include performance venue hire, rehearsal space hire, insurance fees, marketing and publicity fees and associated costs (posters and flyers), sound designer fee, lighting designer fee, mentor fee, costume costs and documentation fees (film and photographic).
The funds raised through pozible will be used to pay for marketing and documentation of the work. The remaining money will go towards fees for sound and lighting design.
A break down of some of the costs:
Fringe Registration Fee: $390.00
Venue Hire Fee: 180.00 per night X 7 nights = $1260.00
Lighting Designer Fee: $600.00
Poster/Flyer Print Outs: $350.00
Insurance: $190.00
Documentation/editing (estimate): $400.00
My challenges are mainly connected with the financial obstacles in presenting this show on my own. While of course this is not impossible, it is a very real and unfortunate dilemma. In order to navigate my own art form, to discover my own voice and to challenge my own pre-concieved perceptions of myself and dance in general i must continue to develop my skills via making, performing in and presenting work. And alongside this is the necessity to receive feedback from both my peers and mentors in the dance community and the audience of the general public. As mentioned above in the 'How the funds will be used' section, there are many costs associated with presenting a show.
