Beneath the songs, the stories and the beauty spot of the blonde bombshell with the red carpet smile...

After a competitive application process, Citizen Theatre were programmed alongside just 29 other shows for the 2014 Melbourne Cabaret Festival to present the first version of Nude, a one-woman show written by Jayde Kirchert and performed by Carina Waye with music direction by Trevor Jones, at Chapel Off Chapel. We had a great season with so much positive feedback and have since been further developing the piece that puts a unique spin on the Marilyn Monroe tribute show, by taking into account the suggestions and ideas from our colleagues and audience members. The new and improved version has more songs, more laughs and more Fantales. Yes, you get free Fantales...

...and this is where you come in...

The NEW SEASON will be performed at the BRAND NEW Alex Theatre St Kilda in August as the next step towards touring the show around the country (and maybe even the world!). We need your help to make this show POZIBLE (oh yes, we went there). And you have the power. In fact, you are more powerful than you think...

Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar provided we reach our campaign target of $3000!!! That means we have to reach our target to not only get the money that you donate, but also the Matched funds.

This production involves the talents of:
Carina Waye - Performer
Jayde Kirchert - Writer/Director
Trevor Jones - Music Director
Marc McIntyre - Costumes/Design
Peter Amesbury - Lighting Design
Glenn Ferguson - Producer
Stage Manager - TBA
Secondment - TBA
Photography and videos - Worth A Shot Productions (Thomas Overend and Lucas Heil)

This project already has the support of the Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation, The Alex Theatre St Kilda and Creative Partnerships Australia. And now we're asking you to join the Citizen team and be part of the next chapter for 'Nude'. Your doubly powerful contribution will allow us to work towards our goal of touring 'Nude' around Victoria (and beyond), meaning you're not only donating for one project, you're creating the opportunity for multiple shows down the track for this young theatre company led by a young female writer/director and an emerging singer/actress.

If you're interested you can read below for more about 'Nude' or scroll down and head to the rewards...

The beginnings of 'Nude' emerged on a Friday night in the living room of Carina's apartment, after eating our way through a block of Smartie Chocolate and flicking through a photography book on the iconic and breathtakingly beautiful, Marilyn Monroe. Even in her daggy tracksuit pants, no make up and a mouth full of Smartie Chocolate, it seemed that Carina had a striking resemblance to the young Norma Jean, in the days before she became one of the greatest sex symbols of all time. But could Carina possibly pull off the classic look? What if she really could embody that special something that made Marilyn special? How do you just 'become' Marilyn and is it even possible? And what role does the audience play in making legends out of such celebrity figures?

These were the questions that got the creative juices flowing. Nude explores the relationship between the immortal, symbolic life of the objectified, sexualised female body and the human being behind it all with hopes, dreams, heartache, memories and love. Nude prompts the audience to consider their role in co-creating a popular public figure and the power and impact their reactions and expectations can have over someone they hold in high esteem.

...Then we added some sexy, sweet songs from Marilyn's repertoire, did some serious research, lots more nights of brainstorming with Smartie Chocolate...and Nude was born!

How The Funds Will Be Used

The Pozible Campaign in conjunction with the MATCHED funds will primarily go towards covering the Production Costs:

-Photography and Promotional Videos $700
-Publicity and Marketing $1500 (including photography, promotional videos, online and print advertising etc)
-Set pieces $600
-Costumes $500
-Props $200
-Lighting and sound equipment $2000
-Rehearsal Venue $700

We are also very fortunate to have support from the Ron and Marg Dobell Foundation to assist with venue and staffing costs, as well as being the recipients of a cash prize courtesy of The Alex Theatre St Kilda, to further assist with venue and staffing costs. And because of the Matched Funding program, your contribution will go a long, long way - remember, $50 is worth $100 to us!

The revenue from the ticket sales will primarily go towards personnel (including paying for venue staff as well as creative and technical staff) and venue costs. Working in a professional theatre, as opposed to non-traditional or independent theatre venues comes with expenses that reflect the high standards and resources that are necessary for a successful, safe and comfortable experience for the audience and all involved. Presenting a show at The Alex Theatre St Kilda is a big step up for Citizen Theatre - a step you're helping us take! - as the venue is a fully professional theatre with a growing reputation and a strong and dedicated team behind it. We will be following in the footsteps of renowned theatre company Red Stitch, who recently presented a season at The Alex Theatre St Kilda.

Often people in creative professions need to work other jobs to financially support themselves, but we are aiming to pay people involved with this project sufficiently, so they have the energy to dedicate themselves to the project, creating a more enjoyable performance for you, allowing our theatre industry to thrive and ensuring quality work be created! Meaning? Your doubly powerful contribution will help artists to be employed! Hooray!

The Challenges

Being the new kid...
'Nude', being a new work by a relatively new company in a pretty new venue could pose a challenge in terms of securing box office sales as we are a less familiar face. However, we also believe this is an advantage and plan to use our energy and passion for new work as a selling point. We feel Melbourne audiences are ready for something fresh and we have a fantastic Producer on board to help us reach people and spread the word.

Accessibility...
We want to make every Citizen Theatre production accessible and relevant to our community. For this reason we are going to have a secondment position to assist the director and producer. Applications will be open closer to the season. Artists with disabilities or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds will be strongly encouraged to apply. Our aim is to give an opportunity to someone to gain some valuable experience behind the scenes in a professional production and be positive leaders in the community by making opportunities within our company accessible to all.

Challenges are the reason we do theatre - making any kind of theatre come to life is all about creative problem solving: we thrive on it. If all else fails - Smartie Chocolate.
