Nuclei is a new Tasmanian arts writing project that brings together four Tasmanian creatives - Fernando do Campo, Laura Hindmarsh, Claire Krouzecky and Alex Nielsen - for four days of intensive road-tripping around the state, visiting four sites, and (many more than) four conversations. It is an experiment into how critical arts writing can be expanded as an ongoing conversation, and how creative practice can be understood anew via journeying to sites of historical, geographical and political significance.
The project was initiated by
FELTspace Artist Run Initiative in Adelaide as part of the larger
The Writing Project. We responded to their callout for collaborative teams of four (an artist, a writer, a curator and a designer - in our case a graduate architect) to propose a project, and were successful in our application. They have funded four projects altogether, with Nuclei being the only Tasmanian project, making this an opportunity to present our creative practices to a national audience, and locate our work within Tasmania's diverse and unique landscape. While this first volume profiles the core Nuclei group, the format will later be passed on to a new team of four, and so on.
The publication is a collaborative manifestation of this initial Nuclei journey. It will comprise a folded single broadsheet featuring extracts of conversations between the Nuclei team, further critical discussion, photographs, drawings, and web links to view further online content. Art journal cum travel guide, Nuclei is a distinctly Tasmanian writing initiative that connects four creatives with their environs, architecture and other creative happenings around the state.
Your money will go directly towards the cost of printing an edition of 200 publications. We need $1084 to make this happen!
We've already been fortunate enough to receive funding support through FELTspace/Australia Council to develop the project, and also through Arts Tasmania to help us get to Adelaide for the official The Writing Project launch and Panel Discussion. But being able to produce a published outcome that we can disseminate to our audience (you!) will bring the project to life - with the hope that we might begin a whole new set of conversations about being a creative practitioner in Tasmania.
