Press Play Music Therapy
Press Play Music Therapy is an exciting new mental health service based in Brisbane and Kingaroy, Queensland, Australia. Press Play Music Therapy can be described as the place where music meets health and where mental illness prevention is just as important as intervention. I (Claire Stephensen/Founder of Press Play MT) aim to make my services accessible to individuals, families and communities regardless of gender, location, sexuality, ethnicity, class or culture. The Music Therapy Rebate
This is where I need your help. Music therapy is currently not covered by medicare or health fund rebates - and many people who need access to music therapy cannot afford to pay full fees. So I am taking the opportunity to use crowdfunding to establish a 'Music Therapy Rebate' for individual and group therapy services. The rebate will allow people to gain a discount on music therapy sessions for up to 6 sessions.The rebate will be awarded particularly to those experiencing financial hardship.
Why $3000?
My fees currently stand at $100/hour for individual therapy and $25-30/hour for group therapy. These costs of course include the service as well as the administration costs of running a business. Currently medicare rebates provide individuals with approximately a $70 rebate for individual therapy (up to 10 sessions of psychology, occupational therapy or social work) and $20-30 rebate for group therapy (up to 10 sessions of psychology, OT or social work). Music Therapy is not yet supported by Medicare rebates (though the Australian Music Therapy Association is working closely on this). With the above medicare rebates in mind, $3000 will give discounted access on more than 40 sessions of music therapy which could present as:
7 individuals access 6 x individual music therapy sessions (at minimum)
4 individuals access 6 x individual music therapy sessions + 5 individuals access to 10 x group music therapy
If I don't meet the AUD $3,000 target needed to fund the 'rebate', the project does not succeed. No credit cards get charged, none of the rewards get made, and the rebate does not go ahead. If the pozible campaign exceeds my target of $3000 - I will prioritise purchasing resources that will enhance my services: ie. music instruments (drums, keyboard), software, payment for other professionals to present in their area of expertise at online seminars. However, all remaining funds will go towards providing discounted services for those who cannot afford music therapy.

Rewards

Organisations are welcome to pre-purchase therapy programs and corporate supporters are welcome to discuss the possibilities of sponsoring specific programs.
Individual therapy**
One hour 1:1 session/s with myself in the Brisbane or Kingaroy clinics (other locations may be available upon request).
Group therapy**
One hour group therapy sessions with myself in the Brisbane or Kingaroy clinics (other locations may be available upon request). Sessions will be tailored to individual needs.
Online seminars - General public
I will be starting a series of online seminars to chat about music therapy and health. They will be both informative and interactive in nature and may include topics such as: What is music therapy? Music and my mood; Creativity and play etc. Interested people may also be able to suggest seminar topics.
Online seminars - Health professionals
I will be starting a series of online seminars directed towards health professionals on topics related to music therapy and/or mental health. I will host some seminars, however, I will also invite other professionals to present on their area of expertise. Seminars will be both informative and interactive in nature. Topics may include: The evidence base of music therapy in mental health recovery; music therapy in trauma; music and emotions etc.
Workshops
Experiential workshops will be available for groups of up to 30 people and will allow people to experience a snapshot of the music therapy process. Experiential workshops will be tailored according to group needs.
10 week group therapy program
Organisations may be interested in pre-purchasing a 10 week group therapy program (10 x 1.5 hour sessions). A 10 week program will be tailored according to the group needs. Please contact me at [email protected] if you'd like more information.
Corporate or Organisation Supporters
If you support the project with more than $450, your organisation (logo and business name) will be personally acknowledged on my website. If you support the project with more than $2000, you will have the opportunity for the rebate or other projects to be named after your business or organisation.
** Please note that music therapy sessions are not available to Claire's family members or friends. Friends and family members, however, are welcome to access online seminars and workshops.
