This Crowd Funding project, should we be successful and reach our target, will be the start of an incredible process which will help to protect the feet and lives of people in east Africa and here in Australia who are disadvantaged because of their lack of appropriate footwear.

WHY SHOES?

Shoes are integral to health, education, employment and sporting opportunities, yet it is estimated that globally 300 million children do not have adequate footwear to protect them and provide the opportunities they need.

My passion for providing shoes began in 2011 while volunteering in rural Kenya when I watched as a young girl aged around 10 years had her heels and toes cut with a razor to extract the parasites (Jiggers) that were burrowed into her feet. That same razor, in a country with high prevalence of HIV AIDS, was used on multiple children while their feet were washed in bloody water.

That day in Kenya has changed my life forever. How could I possibly see and experience such poverty and tragedy and return to my own life unchanged and unwilling to make a bigger difference to the world and others?

Since then I have understood an even wider necessity for shoes and have seen the smiling faces of people whose lives will be changed forever because we have been able to supply shoes to them through the charity I founded (more than 70,000 pairs of shoes have been provided so far).

THE 2013 GOAL

This year our B.H.A.G. (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is to connect with and help more than 100,000 people.

Yes, it’s a Big Goal. But we know we attract people with BIG HEARTS into our community. That’s you!

So far everything we have done has been run on 100% volunteer hours, donated space, donated goods and some of our own cash in South Australia. To be in Victoria, in the beautiful city of Melbourne, we need a bit of cash to set-up a pop-up style shop for a month (or three) so people have a place to bring shoes to be sorted, packed and shipped (and of course donated to some of the 300million children and 1.5billion people living without shoes today).

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

With just $5000 we can touch the lives of 100,000 people in 2013 starting in Victoria!

Specifically five thousand dollars will enable networks to be set-up in Victoria and shoe collecting to begin through schools and businesses in and around Melbourne. In fact (because Victorians have such big hearts for this project) we already have more than 2,000 pairs of new shoes waiting for us!

By reaching $10,000 in pledges individuals will have a place to donate and support the goal of 100,000 pairs of shoes for 100,000 lives during a one-month shoe drive in 2013. Creating lasting social change and enabling more people to be involved.

And even though a one-month shoe drive is awesome a three-month shoe drive focused in your state gathers so much momentum goals can be blown out the water.

Finally, beyond $20k will mean we can help sooooo many more people! The potential for creating lasting change is out of this world amazing.

By contributing to this movement and pledging to this project you will be enabling 100,000 individuals to be reached in 2013.

What your $s will cover: container rental, venue costs, a couple casual staff, transport for moving the shoes, packaging costs and last but not least insurance – basically all the boring yet highly essential stuff.
