CONTROL, my second book, is a deeply personal story about surfing and unplanned fatherhood. It's also about masculinity, something I don't think is often written about in meaningful and accessible ways. I hope that CONTROL stimulates real discussion about fatherhood and masculinity - about how we bring up boys to be men and men to be fathers. More than anything though, I want to write a book that's a great read. I think it will be. This is a book that feels urgent for me to write now and so I've given myself six months to finish it. On top of money I've scraped together, I just need another $5000, which means you can sponsor me for as little as $28 a day. How The Funds Will Be Used
I plan to finish CONTROL by writing full-time for six months.
The six month period will cost me $15,000 (in general living expenses) and I am contributing $10,000 of my own money towards this. That means I need $5000 to make it through.

* Special note - any contributions over and above this amount will be dedicated to supporting final editing and drafting processes after the manuscript is accepted for publication. For my first book, THE BYRON JOURNALS, this was a period of approximately 7 months.

The Challenges
While Text Publishing have first rights to my next manuscript, they are not obliged to publish it. I plan to submit CONTROL to Text in May 2014. If they don't like it, I will shop it around to other publishers. Given responses to excerpts of CONTROL published in Kill Your Darlings, and my track record of publication, I feel confident that the book will be published.

This theme has come up repeatedly in my life, and know I have an important story to tell. Your pledge will allow me the time and space to properly explore this theme.
