The lads and lasses at Horizon are thrilled to be releasing a brand new big band album in Perth, featuring 100% original compositions and a bevy of fierce soloists. Your donations will help us cover the costs related to album artwork, printing and packaging of our CDs, for release in August this year.
Recorded in performance at 'The Bird' in Northbridge, the album is an important milestone for the ensemble, and recognises the talent and hard work all our musicians put in over the first 12 months of our existence.

ABOUT HAO
The Horizon Art Orchestra was formed in late 2010 by Elliott Hughes and Daniel Connor, two young composers from Perth, as a vehicle for new, creative big band music. Comprised of fifteen dynamic young musicians and improvisers from across Australia, HAO strives to present a high standard of performance for some of the most challenging and boundary-pushing original music. The ensemble has tweaked the traditional instrumentation of a typical jazz big band with the inclusion of both bass clarinet and french horn, giving the orchestra a unique variety of timbres and textures.
Since its establishment in 2010, HAO has operated without restrictions regarding genre, but with an emphasis on originality, imagination and creativity. Aiming to present something unique with each performance has lead to the accumulation of an extremely diverse repertoire of music, ranging from intricate rock based compositions to multi-metre contemporary jazz, raucous Reich-influences to straight ahead Basie charts, elaborate pop arrangements to latin suites, and much more. Each member of HAO has a file overflowing with music from composers within the band, featured artists and special guest musicians.
Consisting of musicians predominantly from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts jazz stream, HAO composers have at their disposal a multitude of some of the finest young improvisers in Perth. The combination of passionate, virtuosic musicians and improvisers with inventive and unpredictable compositions makes for some very spontaneous and exciting musical experiences.
