Daniel FloodKimbal - the model we're working with uses an extrusion method of printing. Think of a giant, computer controlled hot glue gun that can extrude super fine filament, layering one a top of the other to create a 3 dimensional shape. While the your suggestion would be awesome, I am not sure of the OHS about it :)14y

Rebecca KaneOr if you would like to build your own, you can buy a kit that's a little more cost-efficient from this Brisbane based supplier: (I bought a Prusa Mendel (same design) ) from here.

http://www.facebook.com/EmblemRobotics14y

Kimbal SummersQuestion - I have a background in electronics covering some 30 years. I also live in Brisbane. As for the 3D Printer Idea - I LOVE IT - but excuse my ignorance I can't see the difference with what your describing and a CNC Machine, for making, say moulds or other 3D objects. Id be happy if you could clarify the difference !

My "version" of a 3D Machine would be to transmute and reassemble energy at the atomic level say from some sort of 3D particle ray gun that scans back and forth, forming your desired object into the shape your wanting, so that you could, for example, make a working functional light globe from scratch. This means the object's internal structure would have to be cloned exactly in the format the original was made - imperfections and all. Such an idea as I'm referring to is Science Fiction at this stage, but and interesting concept. Kimbal Summers14y
