To raise awareness of depression and the connections available within the community
To raise the profile of Australia’s hard working, world class blues musicians

The Idea

Music is the Great Communicator; it crosses all boundaries, including linguistic and personal ones. Music allows people to say things to others that are very difficult in normal speech
Back in Blue takes a novel approach to a subject which is not easily discussed and is not normally associated with music. The benefits of this and the scope of our project are as follows;

Back in Blue is an innovative and exciting concept, aimed at changing the way Depression is handled by not only the sufferers, but those around them. It aims to provide a means of encouraging individuals to interact with friends, family and colleagues that they know are, (or feel could be) at risk, by reminding them that communication is vital to helping fight Depression.

The Back in Blue idea has been conceived by Darren Griffis, a musician personally acquainted with Depression. Darren has envisaged a project which will provide a number of positive outcomes for not only those affected by Depression, but those at risk of falling victim to it, as well as providing an entertaining and original "take" on an Australian Classic.
Back in Blue is to be a tribute album commemorating 35 years since the release of AC/DC's "Back in Black". This album has become the highest selling rock album in history, and is an iconic Australian symbol. A tribute album consisting of some of Australia’s best blues artists, seems a fitting way to raise funds for Beyond Blue, one of the most recognisable avenues of help for Depression sufferers and their families.

The artists associated with this recording are all noted and respected Australian Blues musicians, (hence our name, "Back in Blue"). All musicians have generously agreed to donate their time and talent to record this album, with the only costs being for materials and costs associated with production.

The artists are:
Lloyd Speigel
Geoff Achison, Chris Wilson
Lacy Doley
Transvaal Diamond Syndicate
Zkye Blue
Genevieve Chadwick
Greg Dodd and the Hoodoo Men
Eightball Aitken
Chase the Sun
Shaun Kirk
Bonus track Moksha

The sales of the CD/Vinyl LP, will not only raise funds for Beyond Blue, but will also provide a TANGIBLE REMINDER that good things are right here, right now. Maybe some good-time music will help...or at least provide a distraction. We also hope that the album will be used as a gift to perhaps remind others that friends are aware of their situation, or that the information included on the albums' sleeve can be used to call Beyond Blue should that person feel in need.

All members of the Back in Blue committee are volunteers and will accept no financial reward for their efforts in bringing this project to fruition. We each feel that the project is an innovative and worthy way to raise attention about Depression, encourage people to communicate with each other, and to open the door to discussion by using the medium of popular music.

We hope to make a change, a lasting change, in the way that Depression is regarded and treated by society, simply by making it less intimidating through the use of music.
