Industrial Hemp is an amazing plant with so many healthy sustainable uses. I've been researching hemp for many years and now it's time to turn my passion into a reality. $50,000 will enable me to plant and process a good size crop of Hemp - the more I can raise the more Hemp I can plant.
So far I have a business name, Southern Hemp. I have acquired lots of knowledge and I have a plan. That combined with You, will help greatly in growing a sustainable environmentally friendly Hemp Industry.

My initial focus in the first year will be on growing Hemp for the seed. This will then be divided into three products - Hulled Hemp Seeds, Hemp Oil and Hemp Protein Powder. The products will be sold through health shops and farmer's markets. The stalks will then be turned into garden mulch, which tests have shown create far greater worm activity.
I will also be trying to access a high CBD Hemp seed stock and grow a medicinal crop to be processed into a CBD extract for medicinal use.
Currently in Victoria there is no large scale processing facility to separate the Hemp fibre from the woody core - the hurd. The only proven processor is in the Hunter Valley north of Sydney and it is uneconomical to transport the raw material from Victoria. If my campaign far exceeds my funding target by $1m then we can build a processing facility in Victoria and really propel the Hemp industry forward. This would allow us to process the Hemp required for industry, in the areas of building materials, paper and plastics etc, to have a consistent high volume supply of Hemp, enabling them to confidently add Hemp products to their range.
The more you research Hemp the more you realise that Hemp is such an important crop for our future well being. With many chipping in, we can collectively take a great idea and turn it into a massive revolution in creating a healthy sustainable world.
Hemp has thousands of uses including.......
Healthy Food .... the seeds are one of the highest known sources of protein and is a complete and easily digestible protein because it contains all 20 amino acids including the 9 essential amino acids our body can't produce. Hemp seed has considerable amounts of essential minerals, vitamins and dietary fibre and is an exceptionally rich source of Omega 3, 6 & 9 in the perfect ratio, optimal for a healthy body. Hemp Oil contains a number of essential fatty acids from the Hemp seed and the hemp protein powder is whats left after cold pressing the seed.
Healthy Sustainable Building .... Hemp housing is constructed mixing the pieces of the woody core of the hemp stalk with a lime based binder. The mix is then installed around a traditional timber frame using formwork. The wall is then applied with a lime or clay render to maintain breathability. Hemp walls are naturally well insulated and breathable, creating a very healthy, comfortable living environment ....and.... are carbon negative.
Other products made from Hemp being used in housing are insulation batts, particle board, underlay, carpets, curtains and bedding.
Healthy Medicinal .... Forget medical cannabis, Industrial Hemp also has CBD, which is the cannabinoid that many people claim has relieved them of a wide range of serious illnesses. So we should be talking about medical hemp.
Healthy & Sustainable Paper .... In 1916 the US Government predicted that by the 1940's all paper would come from HEMP and that no more trees need to be cut down. U.S. Government studies report that 1 acre of HEMP equals 4.1 acres of trees

The Challenges
Like all farming no crop is guaranteed of success, however you can minimise failure with careful management. The big thing we have going for our success is irrigation. Also having observed other farmer's Hemp crops I have been able to learn what has worked and what hasn't worked. Another way of insuring a positive return is to do a hay or silage crop on a share basis with neighbouring farmers. The advantages of this is firstly our costs are very minimal as the other farmer covers the harvesting cost and secondly it can be done prior to the hemp growing season.
