Daylesford Erlicheer

Those who have lived within the Daylesford region will know the true power of the local community.

Background

Daylesford Erlicheer is the initiative of Jeff & Donna Thornycroft. 

Jeff and Donna of Wombat Hill Nursery, have been supplying and advising our local residents for the past 27 years.

Over this time, there's been several droughts, water restrictions, bushfires and many other adverse times, but never have Jeff and Donna seen such an impact on the community like the current pandemic. 

Unlike many other small businesses, they are one of the more fortunate ones, and have been able to continue to trade (with limitations). Using their business, and their access to an Erlicheer Daffodil supply, the Thornycrofts wanted to unite the community, with a project everyone could be a part of, even with the current restrictions in place.

10,000 premium Erlicheer Daffodil bulbs have been ordered. The concept is, we need as many people within our region as possible, to pledge to buy a bag of bulbs and plant them at the start of May. The bulbs should be planted in the ground, outside homes, where we can all enjoy them flowering at the same time, not only this year but for many years to come.

Businesses can take part also. Local businesses can plant a pot at the same time, and display these in their shop windows when they flower.

The Erlicheer will flower in late winter early spring, year after year. The flowers will be a reminder of the uncertain times we currently live in, and how we got through it. 

There will be a series of community events including a 'Sowing Soiree' for everyone to head into the garden to plant their bulbs. Later on, a 'Spring Fling'. By then, (hopefully) the restrictions will be lifted and everyone can join their neighbours to enjoy the beautiful sight and fragrance of the Erlicheer in bloom.

Why crowdfund?

The purpose of the crowd-funding is to raise the necessary funds to ensure all members of the community who wish to be involved can be. Whether you can contribute $5 or $200, pay what you feel you can.

By the end of April, those who have pledged will be notified of the various pick-up points to collect their bulbs or in some instances have them delivered.

Any surplus funds after freight, packing, credit card fees, advertising etc will be donated to a local charity,
