DJANGO'S TIGER DEBUT ALBUM

We are a trio of Tasmanian musicians who play and perform Gypsy Jazz and original music. We began humbly, as many Hobart groups do, busking along Salamanca place for loose change, but mostly for the fun of it.  Through this, we first came to be offered opportunities for performing at private and public gigs. We have since been expanding our repertoire to include  not only traditional Gypsy Swing and 20th Century Jazz standards, but also contemporary works and more recently, original music.

Our project is to record and produce an all-original album featuring compositions which fuse our gypsy, folk, and jazz influences into a unique melodic and rhythmical sound which centres on the warm and bright timbre of our acoustic instruments. An infectious, driving rhythm and playful improvisation makes our music a joy to perform, but also accessible and enjoyable to a wide audience.
Busking at Salamanca, Hobart
We feel the time is right to produce an album of our own music and to share it with broader audiences. This album will be invaluable to the band as a tool for sharing our work beyond live performance, and supporting tours and gigs.

In November this year, Django's Tiger will be embarking on our first 'mainland' east coast of Australia tour, which we are really excited about. We will make our way to Brisbane and back, stopping at both rural and inner-city venues. Having a CD available at these shows will enable our music to be shared amongst the communities we visit, help build our image as a professional ensemble, and of course provide a valuable source of income to support gigging and touring.

With this recording project we hope to deliver a whole new experience to people that they wouldn't find anywhere else. But we can't do so without you.

Your help will make this project happen!  We will only receive funds from this campaign if our target figure is reached.

How The Funds Will Be Used

All pledges will go 100% directly towards the costs involved with producing the album.

Our pozible campaign goal is to raise $2700. If we succeed in reaching this goal, Arts Tasmania will grant us an additional 50% of the amount raised during our campaign to further enable the production of our album!

This is great news for us, and for our pledgers. Our project has a total price tag of $4050. But with this fantastic opportunity provided through the partnership between Pozible and Arts Tasmania called 'Crowbar', this amount has been reduced to a manageable $2700. This means that every contribution will have a much more tangible impact on making the album happen.

These costs include:

* $1500 - We will hire expert sound engineer George Goerss to record, mix and master our CD. George has over 36 years experience in the industry. We've chosen to work with him because of his familiarity with recording improvised music; George has recorded and produced two CD's for Tasmanian jazz pianist Tom Vincent, and has undertaken recordings for Virtuosi Tasmania.

* $2036 - Printing and shipping CDs (1000 units). These CDs will be a great asset for our band, especially in making it viable to tour and play around the state and the rest of Australia. We will be touring the east coast to Brisbane in Nov-Dec 2014.

* $150 - Venue Hire for recording. We have selected the beautiful location of St Johns Church for it's unique acoustics. We tested it out one afternoon and loved it. When the sound in a room really works with your instrument its a wonderful thing. We will hire the church for two whole days and evenings on October 11th and 12th 2014 for recording.

* $150 - Distribution costs. What good is recording if we can't post our CDs to our pledgers!?

* $214 - Transaction and Pozible fees.

The Challenges

All things going as planned, our ambitions for recording a CD should go off without a hitch.

But of course, as with any plan, there is the potential for arising obstacles and challenges.

We have carefully budgeted to cover the costs for our project, but there is always the chance that these may be increased due to unforeseen circumstances. If this is the case, then we will lower the amount of CDs to be printed to offset the increased costs.

We anticipate arrival of CDs by early-mid November, so pledgers will receive their copy shortly afterwards. Of course, there is always the remote possibility of delays in manufacture, in which case we will keep pledgers up to date with all changes.

Should illness or some other unforeseeable emergency arise on the day of recording, not to worry, we can easily reschedule.
