Mike arrives at death’s door following a fatal crash. His son Tim wishes Mike back to life upon a star and after 50 years when that wish finally reaches its destination Mike wakes up in a world that left him behind.
The one unchanging concept that’s driven every iteration of 50 Years Later since its inception in the summer of 2017 is the idea of a wish’s lengthy journey to the stars above, (stars that have in all likelihood already burnt out and died). No one can say for sure if we’ll ever accurately measure the speed of a child’s hope and thus, 50 years became the perfect amount of time for a dewy-eyed 6-year-old to wish his father back to life after a 5-decade absence, a tragic delineation of parental abandonment for what is essentially a coming-of-age story about a 40-year-old man.
The theme of this film is one of ‘appreciation’. At one point or another, everyone’s taken a family member or a friend, a job or even a way of life for granted. Perhaps one day this film will inspire someone to better themselves and appreciate the good times and even the bad times, because they don’t last forever. Despite the conflict between this husband and his son, the tone is very light-hearted. This story is averse to approaching heavier subjects in a sober, dour way. It deals with such concepts as the collapse of a marriage, murder and death with humour and this lays the foundations of a story that concurrently has a lot to say, yet doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Budget Overview
50 Years Later is a short comedy that has been in production throughout the last year, we have travelled around Victoria visiting places including Lorne and Torquay for some of their best filming locations to bring our film to life.
A brief outline of the total film's budget distribution is as follows:
Contributing to this crowdfindign campaign will help fund the film's professional colour grading and sound mix as we prepare for submission to various international film festivals, a large part of the funduing will also go towards reimbursing the production costs including wages, equipment and location hire.
