PLEASE HELP SAVE LIZZY
Our family were waiting for a greyhound for months and finally GAP contacted us about Lizzy. She hadn't been fostered but had an obviously lovely temperament. They thought she'd be great with the two boys. We met her and agreed. She is a big gentle baby - patient and loving.
And then....
One week later, she broke her leg. Apparently this can happen to greyhounds when they are walking on uneven ground. She wasn't used to being outside her cage and in the real world. She was still a little unsure and unstable and her hock, the back of her ankle literally snapped. It was so loud we heard it . We took her to the vet immediately, who thought she was there to be put down. That's what you do with broken greyhounds.
No!
We scrimped together savings and paid for that operation and subsequent vet bills over the last 2 months, only to find now that she will need a further two operations to heal. The metal pins haven't taken and are causing an infection in her bone. She needs them out for the infection to heal and then she'll have an operation that will fuse the bones. This gives 75% chance of complete recovery and 25% chance of recovery with a limp.
Either way it's a better outcome then the alternative.
She is a part of our family now and everyone who meets her comments on her incredible good nature. She is even affectionate to small fluffy dogs and cats.
