Wildlife Sanctuary Bid
One of the rare and treasured wildlife refuges on the Southside — home to countless species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and plants — is under threat. Developers are have acquired this land for construction, which would destroy fragile habitat and displace vulnerable animals that rely on it for survival.
If no action is taken, this natural sanctuary could be lost forever.
Our Goal
We aim to raise $1,000,000 to secure the future of this refuge by:
- Purchasing the land title to prevent current and future development.
- Supporting legal protections to safeguard the land.
- Investing in restoration and stewardship to keep habitats thriving.
- Demonstrating a sustainable alternative: a vision of eco-friendly community living that works in harmony with nature, not against it.
Why This Refuge Matters
This refuge:
- makes food, shelter and breeding sites available for native animals
- increases the ability of native species to move across landscapes via green corridors
- helps lessen the impact of forest clearing on populations of forest species
- increases the extent of high-quality forest habitat over the longer term
- maintains healthy populations of native species
- retains the ecological benefits provided by forests and the species they support
If developers succeed, all of this will vanish.
