Rocket is independent art, supporting independent art (sometimes the independent art in Rocket is *also* supporting independent art, but let's not get repetitive too early). Rocket is a good old fashioned, hold-in-your-hand zine. We need funding so we can keep making Rocket, and keep it free.

Rocket is an art project with two purposes. The first is to help share art.

Artists of all genres are welcome to submit work to be printed and shared to as many people as we can. Month to month we have words, photos, paintings, comics - whatever people have to share.

The second purpose is to encourage creation. At Jackson Cannery it is known that whether you consider yourself an artist or not, making something is good. I could try to explain to you how beneficial art and creation is to the artist, the audience and the world, but as with most things, Daniel Kitson sums it up pretty well.

"We all have a form or heroism open to us every second we're awake and it's one of the most important things in the world, I think, and it's this: Pointless acts of futile creativity. I think that pointless acts of futile creativity - futile creativity in general - is one of the most important things there is because it brings with it an innate compassion, an innate humanity and an innate defiance just by dint of what it is." - Daniel Kitson, Weltanscauung.

We've had a soft launch, and five issues so far. We're still working out the kinks, but the Rocket community is growing and we're proud to have around one hundred people on the mailing list (across three continents), with new artists added to the roster every month.

Rocket only exists in printed form, distributed with issues dropped off all around our towns, plus a growing mailing list for subscribers.

Now that we know what we're doing, we know what we need, and this is where you come in!

We require start-up funds so we can have an official launch with a fully polished product.

We currently print at officeworks where unfortunately our computer and their printer do not get along.

So we'd like to upgrade our in-house printer.

We're also implementing a postage fund so that when the Jackson Cannery funds are low, the Rocket release is not threatened.

DID YOU KNOW: Studies have shown that supporting independent artists is proven to make you more attractive AND give you superpowers.

Get involved. Support us to support artists.

Rocket.

Make, Share, Enjoy.

The Rewards

As the rewards are all art, they are not all able to be pictured here (yet). For example, there are a few t-shirt designs currently in the works, but nothing confirmed. What we CAN confirm is that it will be pretty awesome, and hand screen-printed. Same goes with the tote bag, magnets, badges, etc. We'll keep working at our end to get the best art, and the best value into your rewards.

The mixed CD is still growing, but to give you a hint at the variety of genres and artists, we've got some Sheriff, Georgia Maq, Matt Haeck, Lucy Wilson, The Shadow League, Moosejaw Rifle Club, James Teague, Laura Palmer, The Stiffys... the list goes on.

We will do our best to get all rewards shipped as soon as possible after the project is completed, however short delays are sometimes unavoidable. The great news is, that even in the unlikely event your reward is delayed, Rocket will keep coming to your preferred letterbox every month full of goodness while you wait.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Budgeting for an ongoing subscription based (free) product is difficult, as any increase in subscribers will change the numbers, but here's what we're looking at.

Printing Equipment - $1500
12 Months Production & Postage - $5000
Reward Production & Postage - $2000
Pozible Fees & Incidentals - $1500

These numbers are conservative, based on a relatively cheap secondhand commercial printer and current monthly production. However, wonderfully, our subscriber list is constantly growing.

For these reasons, we'd love to exceed our target, but wanted to keep it achievable. Tell all your friends because the better the equipment, the better quality the zine will be (as well as the random art pieces that often accompany each issue).
