Homage to Uncertainty @ Adelaide Fringe
I'm Emma Beech, and I am a non-fiction performance artist. This is my first time with a solo show in the mega-sized Adelaide Fringe 2013. It's called Homage to Uncertainty.
Homage to Uncertainty is a stand-up documentary. It's part theatre, part stand-up, part story-telling, part re-enactment. It has stories, gestures & re-inactments, collected from interviews, confessions, and window watching, that all add up to some kind of comic punchline about uncertainty.
I started making shows for my mum in my bedroom when I was 6 & I haven't stopped. I'm a Flinders Drama Centre Graduate, I work as an actor, I've hosted an arts show for ABC & Australia Network and work with theatre companies, making & performing, in Australia and Europe. I take directly from the life and people around me in my performances. I have conversations with people around an idea or theme, and then I collect material from this to use in my shows. You might even be in it. I work with great people to bring my shows to life, such as Stephen Sheehan, Sarah John and Kaz Therese to name a few. I've also founded a group called the Australian Bureau of Worthiness with Tessa Leong and James Dodd, and we make dynamic performance lectures by asking people in a particular place, What makes your day worth it?
I've been collecting material for 3 years for Homage to Uncertainty. I've done a 3 night season at the Sydney Fringe in 2012 and now it's ready to face the one and only Adelaide Fringe in all of its self-funded, self-produced glory.
The show needs your help to cover venue costs- around $1000 all up. This would mean I can work a couple of weeks less at my other job so I have the time to collect the 12 stories I need to include something fresh and new in each and every show during my 12-night Adelaide season. AND some money to help make a great looking film document of the work, $300 will cover half of it. So, $1300 is our target.
