My name is Emma Churchland. I'm 26 years old and a passionate Drama Teacher in Brisbane.
Those who know me well will tell you that I am incrediblty passionate about education. I'm the person at a party debating and
discussing education at all levels and consistently trying to spread the message - the key to ACTUALLY changing the world is through education.
Why am I creating this campaign? Because I need your help!
On the 27th December, I will be heading off to Tanzania for 23 days, with a leadership orgnisation yLead. On this trip, I will be undertaking a massive task, one that absolutely fills me with more fear that you can possible imagine - climbing Mt Kilimanjaro,
6 days, 72km, 6000 feet. Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest, free-standing mountain in the world.
I will also have the privledge of visiting The School of St. Jude, a school founded by one of my personal heroes, Gemma Sisia, a passionate teacher from Armidale.
I have pledged to raise $500 for The School of St. Jude and I am asking for your help. I am asking you to sponsor me - to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
So why sponsor me?
The School of St. Jude provides education to the poorest of the poor in Tanzania. My hope is that through every step I take and with your support, I can help to provide assistance to children in Tanzania on their path to education and a better shot at life!
In addition, walking this far is a huge undertakign for me. I was born with mild Cerebral Palsy which makes it difficult to move on the best of days. This is most certainly the most physically taxing mission of my life and through your kind donations, not only will you be helping young people in Tanzania, but you will be supporting a girl who is unsure if she can even make it to the top.
Please don't confuse this campaign as a cry for help or to make people to feel sorry for me - I'm simply using this opportunity to help those in need and provide myself with as much encouragement for the six days ahead of me.
How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will go directly to yLead house at The School of St. Jude.
Please know that some of your donation will go to Pozible for the use of this website.
The Challenges
The greatest challenge is getting to the top - we are battling altitude, the cold, exhaustion and illness. It is mentally and physically taxing.
My greatest challenge is making sure my legs make it. Cerebral Palsy stops me from doing many things, but I hope it doesn't stop me from getting to the top.
A small gift from the school
Sponsor me for $50 and I'll send you a small gift from the school.
Personalised gift
For your donation, you will receive a personalised gift from the school.
