Emma Knights

Hi! I'm Emma Knights and I am a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium (classical performance) and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (contemporary music). I make my living as a full-time freelancing musician working as a pianist, musical director, composer, songwriter, orchestral/band musician and repetiteur/accompanist.  I have toured professionally with Opera Queensland and internationally with Vintage Vendetta and my own one-woman cabaret shows. In 2017, I was an invited accompanist for the International Congress of Vocal Teachers in Sweden. But you didn't come here for a copy of my bio! 

After many years of performing on the piano for other artists, I am releasing my debut album "Anticipate"! Some of the tracks I have had since studying at WAAPA many years ago, others have been written more recently. This campaign is for you to pre-order your copy and to come on some crazy adventures with me either in-person or online whilst enjoying my music!

My style has been described as "contemporary indie meets art song" and a review of a pre-launch earlier this year stated "One of Emma’s talents and one which I think is quite rare, is that her superbly crafted compositions enable the music to tell the story as much as the lyrics do. And the lyrics are exceptional. Well written and evocative." You can read the review HERE If you did attend that original show, the songs have changed a bit both in the ones I selected based on your feedback (some new ones added) and with the bass and drums!

I describe my work as reflective piano-based pop! Through my music, I hope to embrace moments, feelings, connection and to bring smiles. As I am a classically trained pianist who has worked most of my life in theatre and cabaret this comes out in my original tunes. I am recording the tunes with musicians, and dear friends, Brody Green on drums and Milush Piochaud on bass. The Music Development Office granted me some funds to go towards the recording which has enabled me to do this step. I wanted to do a pre-order set-up for my album release and as Pozible is an Aussie company it made sense to use them to make this happen! I don't have space in my unit to have a lot of stock left over so I thought the pre-order would save that and be better for the environment!

This picture is me performing in the #pianodrome in Edinburgh 2019. Some other things you might find interesting are that my cabaret shows have received 4.5 and 5-star reviews across Australia and the UK and have been reviewed in the International Piano Magazine. I also opened for Lenka’s Adelaide show of her 2020 national tour! I am also currently completing my Honours in Bachelor of Music (Popular Music) at the Elder Conservatorium (Sia Furler Institute). There is a bonus track on the album written by my nanna in 1935 and performed by me and my sister. It is really special. 

I have tried to pop a few different price points for different pre-orders for you so I hope there is something you like! The larger rewards include a copy of the album however if you want handwritten lyrics and the album you would need to select both separately. My album is almost finished with a very big thank you to the Music Development Office for their support towards paying the musicians and some studio time. They also supported my Pianist Envy video as part of this grant which you can watch HERE. There are also costs involved in releasing and printing the album so the funds raised here will go towards the recording and printing!
