Iceland Dream Project
A massive THANKYOU to all the donors so far that helped get the project reach the minimum Pozible reward goal of $2500. Hitting this initial target means all pledges will become a reality for me when the project ends on June 9. The power of community and awesome friends :)
The DREAM target for my Iceland Residency, to cover all dream travel for the trip is $5000- with recent global increases on fuel, long haul travel surcharges, the fluctuating and non-equal exchange rate between the AUD & Euro, and the astronomical cost of living and traveling in Iceland, the IDP has become an important lifeline for this residency opportunity.
Every bit counts, big or small. So if you can help before the project ends June 9, or would like some art to reward supporting an emerging artists first international career opportunity, please make a pledge asap! Your support is appreciated so much more than my words can say!
For more information on the IDP, please read below or my take a look at my Updates section. If you'd like to see who you're investing in, please check out my work at www.emmalindsay.com
Cheers,
Emma.
----------------------
Hello, my name is Emma Lindsay and recently I was awarded a BAER Art Centre International Artist Residency, in Höfdaströnd Iceland www.baer.is. Visiting Iceland has been a long-term dream of mine made possible by this major international career development opportunity, providing a once in a lifetime chance to see and make art in the newest country in the world.
A friend of mine recently said, 'We'd like to help you get to Iceland- why don't you do a fund raiser with Pozible?'. So I'm putting out the call for interested art lovers and supporters to donate to the project and help me take full advantage this life-changing career opportunity. Your help will enable me to travel to and around Iceland from July 24- September 2, to develop and create a whole new series of paintings and artworks during my BAER residency trip. Artworks and research made during this residency trip will be used to develop an interactive community exhibition in late 2012 in collaboration with a well-known public art gallery space in Brisbane. Further details will be posted on my website closer to time- you can also see examples of my art there at: www.emmalindsay.com
I've raised some of the funds required to get me to the other side of the world, but Iceland is an expensive country. Your donations will allow me to get to my Iceland residency, and access landscapes where Vikings and explorers roamed, where auroras, volcanoes, glaciers, deserts, weird and wonderful plants and wildlife can be absorbed and documented for later conversion into art.
The minimum donation amount required to green-light the Iceland Dream Project is $2500. The ideal target to cover all of the planned research travel is $5000 due to the requirement of undertaking guided hiking tours to get into remote and wild interior locations. With your help, I will be able to film and record studio research of bubbling landscapes, wildlife, puffins, trolls and elves sighted at dream locations such as :
-Þórsmörk volcano hike: Seljalandsfoss & Skogafoss waterfalls, Mt Hekla volcano or Eyjafjallajökull glacier & volcano (site of 2010 eruption).
-Geysir, Gullfoss & Dettifoss waterfalls, and Landmannalaugar in the interior- where the Apollo astronauts trained for the moon trip.
-Jökulsárlón Glacier lagoon & the Vatnajökull Glacier (largest glacier in Europe)
-Snæfellsnes peninsula- site of Jules Verne's novel 'Journey to the centre of the earth'
-Black volcanic sand beaches of Vik.
-World Heritage area Ilulissat Icefiord, Greenland.
A project blog will be set up while I'm on residency, so you will be able to follow my adventures in Iceland and on location at my BAER Art Centre studio.
So, if you believe in supporting emerging artists and being part of a contemporary art project from development to creation phase, this is the project for you! All donations will help and be appreciated, no matter how small or large. Your contribution-$5, $20, $100 or above could take a great opportunity and help turn it into a high-quality artistic project. All donors that wish to provide their contact details (via email located on my website) will be publicly acknowledged on my project blog.
Thank you for your interest and support.
Kind Regards,
Emma Lindsay.
