The Virtual Art at Museums Project (V.A.M.P. for short) has been designed to easily introduce 21st century augmented reality and virtual creative content to Museums Australia Victoria members. By funding this private Pozible campaign, your institution's exterior or public entrance will become a site on the V.A.M.P. augmented reality layer. A three-dimensional work of digital art will be viewable at any time by anyone with a Smartphone and the free Layar augmented reality browser.
The Virtual Art at Museums Project seeks to acquire ten museum partners to explore this new technology and digital experiences for your public, staff, artists, and community. Created in partnership with Sydney-based digital curator Warren Armstrong, this idea will also introduce other possibilities for augmented reality technology, such as rich digital content for exhibitions and collections, inter-active digital enhancements for the viewer, image capture and recognition by smartphone, and virtual worlds that were not possible before the Android tablet and iPhone.
Working with our ten partner museums, the project will "install" a spinning virus-like satellite at the museum's public space or entrance. Using a GPS-enabled smartphone/tablet and the Layar augmented reality browser, visitors will have an opportunity to experience work of digital art as augmented reality on their live camera screens — as if the object were actually hovering and spinning above.

Your museum/institution will become a partner in the Virtual Art at Museums Project, and become a designated host site for a work of augmented reality art, curated by Warren Armstrong.
