Here at Jacob & Esau, we see a huge opportunity to supply wearable and affordable clothing that has been made with a little extra TLC to everyday consumers like you and I!
While sustainability in fashion can take many different forms, we have chosen to focus on sustainable manufacturing, namely the skilled workers who make our garments. Just recently, we met Kholil and Wiwik (+ adorable son Dafar), a husband and wife team who will produce Jacob & Esau's first collection from the comfort of their own home in Bali, Indonesia.
They will not only receive fair payment and working time frames as the foundation of our business practice, but be part of an on-going transparency initiative we've called 'Meet Your Maker'.
'Meet Your Maker' is an online tool that aims to build bridges between makers and consumers all over the world, allowing YOU to meet Kholil, Wiwik and every other maker whom J&E partners with in the future! A unique code is attached to each garment, identifying the maker and revealing personal interviews that help you build relationships with them.

Rewards
This bit gets a little tricky since the Pozible funds will go toward making the garments then photographing them to present to retailers and customers such as yourself, meaning we don't have such photos to show you right now! We do however, have a rough sample here and there as well as some trade sketches shown below (black and white outlines of the garment styles) to give you the best idea possible of what your J&E clothing rewards will look like, and we look forward to updating you with more pictures as they start to be produced!
Please note we have limited size quantities available ranging from XS through to XL so don't forget to select your choice depending on the reward! We will send out rewards on a first come first served basis if we reach our target, but of course we will do our very best to provide you with the size you have requested!
As part of J&E's philosophy of valuing people, we are making it our responsibility to educate consumers about the different forms sustainability can take, not just in fashion, but through food, our homes and our lifestyles. We hope to raise awareness through our brand and in collaboration with other brands who share similar values to us, supporting each other in what is sure to be an exciting journey!

These neat little 'Community' pendants were made by Melbourne born and bred carpenter Brad Wade. They reflect his minimalist design style for all things timber as well as his choice to source repurposed materials whenever possible, providing rare character to each individual piece that he creates (not to mention doing his part for the environment!). We're keeping a close eye on his future projects including furniture and lifestyle goods, so this is definitely a space to watch!
Compuknit are J&E's chosen manufacturer for the sweet cotton socks that are available as rewards! We love that they are a family owned business in Melbourne and have been in the industry for over 30 years, constantly investing and adapting to meet the changing manufacturing industry of Australia. One such investment is their accreditation with Ethical Clothing Australia, which involves meeting various legislative requirements for their supply chain and verifying that all their workers are receiving their legal entitlements. This is something that J&E are very proud to support!

Our good friends at Ethical Consumers Australia have released the 'Good On You Clothing' initiative, a program that rates 1,000's of niche and mainstream clothing brands for their performance on ethical and sustainable criteria. The premium subscriptions that are up for grabs will be released later this year, giving you personalised advice on sourcing ethical and sustainable fashion products that meet your particular need. For example: Want to know more about the ethical performance of a brand that isn't yet listed on the website? Good For You Clothing will research into and let you know!

- paying the garment makers & production manager in Bali ($5,000)
- shipping the end product to Melbourne ($1,000)

- a professional website with hosting ($2,000)
- an online store ($800)
- filming videos & shooting a look book ($1,500)
- graphic illustrations ($200)
We are extremely passionate about our project, continually investing our own time and money into funding our own business trips overseas and many other costs that always seem to pop up! We are choosing to fund through Pozible instead of going to the bank because we want to build on-going relationships with you as our amazing supporters, whom without, Jacob & Esau would never exist!

The Challenges
The challenges we face are typical of many small businesses and especially of those committed to sustainability. These particularly include making initial sales and remaining competitive in terms of price and product, especially considering our commitment to paying fair wages and developing sustainable practices.
We are building our brand through social media, press and other support channels, so we believe our product sales will increase as we commit to growing our online presence and the overall exposure of our garments. We will also use this to educate consumers about ethical and sustainable fashion, accentuating our point of difference over competitors.

Balinese Goodness
For being a good friend, we'll send you your own little piece of Balinese goodness in the form of a sweet bracelet! It was made by Lucy, who sells her handmade goodies on Seminyak beach and feigned a heart attack when we asked for a million! You now have some responsibility for that close emergency call and will also receive some handwritten love from J&E!

Well that's a little misleading because these bad boys are suitable for Him as well as Her and are guaranteed to keep your feet feeling fresh all summer long! Manufactured by Ethical Clothing Australia certified knit specialist Compuknit, we love that these are made in Melbourne and place emphasis on fair labour just like us! In classic white with the J&E logo, they're one of our favourite ways of saying Thank You!

Custom Illustration
A once off opportunity to turn yourself and a friend into custom hand drawn illustrations. Not forever of course, but in a file that will definitely, most probably last forever!
