How many beautiful same-sex love films can you name? Brokeback Mountain? Sorry, that one was 10 years ago. In an exclusive interview relating to the film Carol in Cannes film festival in 2015, Cate Blanchett said: "I suppose that you don't often see it(same-sex love drama)on the screen still and that's why we're talking about it."
And she believes the film industry needs to change and audience want to see the diversified films on the screen. 

So the film I am going to make is called “Heart Station” and it is a drama about an Asian Gay man, Ziyan, who is dealing with his obsession for a straight man Aaron but later he begins to question does obsession equal love?


Why I want to make this film? Because I am always curious about how human being's “subconscious desire” causes us problematic situations. For myself, I have had the obsession for straight men several times before and I couldn’t figure out what is the difference between passion and love?  I want to find the answer of my question.   

For my protagonist Ziyan in the story, he has the same problem as me. But he’s more courageous than me and he heads into a self-exploring journey which turns into a 3 month HIV test window period in the film. In that particular time, he tries to find his love though the external confrontations of his sexuality, his past, his identity and his fear of HIV. 

It’s a 20 minute film dealing with a classical topic of “finding love” in a 3 act structure. And I believe the theme “impossible and unrequited love” of this film is a common issue for most people. And I think this film is not niched to particular groups. I believe the audience who have the same experiences would resonate with the story. 

One more thing we really want to share to you is: As you know, homosexuality is still a sensitive and forbidden topic in China and Chinese film industry. There are almost no exposures about this kind of topic in Chinese main stream media. But as a film maker who is originally from China, I feel like I have the responsibility to push the society to change. And I think the short film is really a good medium to express my thoughts. This film will be shot in Melbourne and premiered at ACMI, but we do want Chinese audience to see it at the same time. And as a graduate project at Victorian College of the Arts, this film is a stepping stone that gets me into the industry. So if you are as passionate as us of telling this story, then this project is definitely the right one for you to support to.

But don't stop at $2000, the extra moneys you donate will go to the post-production. We will have more works to do in post-production like: Sound Design and some VFX.

This film will be shot in Melbourne from 29th July to 5th August. In the script, we have around 12 different locations. So it means we have to transport a lot during the shoots.  And remember it's only a 7 day shoot and on each day we only have 10 hours and 45 minutes(including two meals' time) for shoot.  It means we will lose the precious time.  So we do have to find a creative and practical way to solve this potential problem.
