WHO: Me! Emerging dancer and choreographer, half way through her degree. Keen to build her skills and gather information to fuel her remaining studies and career...
WHAT: 3 month trip to explore, discover, learn and be inspired. The trip will include:
- Dance Festivals
- Professional classes
- Workshops
- Company class with various world-renowned neo-classical and contemporary dance companies
WHEN: Mid-April to mid-July 2016
WHERE: Europe! Focusing mainly on the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland but also visiting France, England, Spain, Sweden and Norway.
WHY: Professional development, extending my knowledge and understanding of the dance industry in every aspect. Getting exposed to new styles and approaches and building international networks is top priority to support my career upon graduation and help me be the dancer I am training and working so hard to be!
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER?! Throughout the trip, I will be video recording my experiences and random acts of dancing along the way. This will constitute an arty documentary-style dance film that encompasses what I learn, discover, explore and experience. Expect lots of terribly cheesy but breathtaking landscape shots as well as some silly shots of me dancing in busy streets.
IF YOU CANNOT PLEDGE FINANCIALLY but have advice or contacts in any of the countries I have mentioned, that is a enormous help as well! Whether it is your favourite coffee shop in Amsterdam, a dancer you know, or a hostel I should stay away from, all information is useful and I'd love to hear your thoughts!
How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will go towards travel between places during the trip. In order to be exposed to as much as possible, my itinerary is based on which fantastic dance festivals are on at any given time and when each company is available for me to visit. Thus, it doesn't follow the most geologically logical route.
I foresee many naps and much pilates on long train trips between countries but, when I am in one place for a while, I will certainly be hiring a bicycle... the best way to see the beautiful townships (or so I've heard).
The Challenges
The project is very financially demanding however, I am applying for funding from a variety of sources and am trying my best to arrange the trip in a cost-efficient way. Do not fear!!! I will certainly be going on the trip no matter what funding I receive. There are so many things I can benefit from that I WILL be able to do on a tight budget and I'm currently saving as much I can in order to really make the trip worth while whether I get funding or not!
