Dancing Through India
Hi!
So....this is my first pozible, so bare with me whilst I find the perfect balance of information, appreciation and desperation for you.
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Freya List and I am writing on behalf of myself and 6 beautiful people that I will be taking to India in the coming weeks. Oh my, it will be Christmas before you know it!
We would love any support you can muster up. Financial would be appreciated more than you could know, but even a share would go a long way.

Last year I had the opportunity and guts (which will forever be weakened thanks to India) to head over to India in association with CERES Global to experience first hand some of the projects they have going on. I met with the CERES co-ordinator Ben (who soon became my human shield), and for just under a month I had some of the most incredible experiences of being able to use dance to communicate in all different situations. As we checked on current projects, such as the building of teacher's living quarters in a school in Pal, we were also able to lay down some new foundations of relationships that future trips could explore. I won't dive into the details too much as you can read my blog that is currently getting wrtitten to hopefully provide a little more insight into what this is all about. Again first time blogger... and haven't been able to get my words together for 18months since the trip (probably why I haven't mentioned it to people as it just becomes a ramble- much like this sentence), but it will be up in a few days if you care to learn more.
WHAT IS IT:
CERES is a sustainable community park in East Brunswick that provides lots of education and community opportunities (http://ceres.org.au/global/).
In partnership with CERES Global, we are providing the opportunity for a group of creative people to head to India for work in sustainability, the environment, community development, social equity and education. We are so excited to get to use dance to amongst these opportunities. The project involves us using our own specific skill set, to connect with and assist different communities. Dance will be used as a method of communication at every stage of the trip, from teaching in remote villages, running a day for kids in the red light district, learning from women's groups in the community, sharing with university students, and providing workshops in the city. These are just some of the opportunities that are awaiting myself and the creatives to enhance relationships that will lead to ongoing projects that CERES will assist with. We all have a varying skill set and I am so excited to see everyone be able to use them, as well as picking up some new ones along the way.
HELP!
We will be in India for 2 weeks and although we are going with CERES Global, it is self funded and therefore having your support to get this off the ground would mean the world. I hope this trip is successful so future experiences can be provided, and we can attempt to make some kind of difference in the world whilst using our skillsets and passions.... or we all just come back tired, baffled and with parasites.. but at least we would have tried!
If you want to support us 'trying' to make this trip a reality, or you have more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me, or any of the others embarking on this confronting and beautiful adventure.
Thank-you so much for reading that, being interested and possibly helping us on our way!
Budget Overview
-Return flights from Australia to India
-CERES Global running costs
-Food and living expenses for all
-Accomodation for all
-Domestic travel for all
-Insurance
Any support you can manage would go a long way, even if you're just sharing this pozible campaign!
You will see many fundraiser events popping up in both Sydney and Melbourne that you can get along to.
However, in pennies you can spare to decrease costs for the group would be more appreciated that I can say.
Potential Challenges
It's India... so there is a lot that can go wrong. India is a great lesson in developing skills to be able to navigate through situations they have a tendency to go very wrong. But that is the magic of India- you travel for 17hrs on an overnight train, have rats crawl across your feet, but then get to share a connection through dance with someone in a remote community and everything else melts away.
There will be some truly hard challenges, such as feeling helpless in cruel situations, abiding by other people's values and cultural norms that you do not share if they are hurtful or against what you believe to be the right thing.
Luckily we have a supportive, strong and curious group of people formed together to help each other through difficult situations. As a whole, I know everyone is beyond excited to explore the new culture and are open to whatever challenges are presented to us.
Although I am sure we will come back with a story or two (laughing to myself as I recall being headbutted into the gutter by a cow).
Personalised dance move
As a group we will create a dance move just for you, which will be part of the dance we create at the end of the trip.
