IN THE DARK is an immersive theatre-game hybrid created by Georgia Symons and Iris Gaillard. In the game, you will be invited to join the Fellowship of the Aquara and participate in a very important and rare ceremony. But as the ceremony unfolds, some players may begin to question the nature of this fellowship and its strange ceremonies. What is the ceremony really about? Will you give yourself over to the divine mantis shrimp and reap its rewards, or take a stand against the Fellowship and everything it stands for? The action is in your hands.

With this project, we want to open up a playful space for thinking about the nature of faith, and our responses to beliefs other than our own.

Get ready to play high-stakes hide and seek, dance your best interpretive dance, and question everything you believe in, whatever that may be.

IN THE DARK has been selected for Metanoia Theatre’s Live Works program this year, and will have a development showing at the Mechanics Institute in Brunswick from May 12-17. We can’t wait to share the work and test it out on real live people. But there’s a lot to get done between now and then. We’ve got props and costumes to buy and make, videos to produce, technical equipment to hire, and artists to pay.


Here’s a bit of detail on the kinds of things your money will go towards.

FIRST $2000 - YOUR PLEDGES:
With your money we will be able to afford:
Basic costumes and sets
Headphone and mp3 rental for the audience
Some rehearsal space
Some payment for the artists involved

Pretty fundamental stuff - without this money, we have a pretty sparse production.


But THEN, if we reach our target, Creative Partnerships Australia will MATCH it, which means…


MATCH $2000:
MORE detailed set, costume and props.
MORE technical equipment required to make more complex puzzles.
MORE rehearsal space
MORE payment for the artists

PLUS Catering AND Transport costs covered!

In independent productions such as this one, all artists have signed up to work for free. If we’re able to match our crowdfunding goal, our MATCH funding will contribute to all of us getting paid for our work.


We hope that IN THE DARK will open up some really interesting discussions about how we confront our own beliefs and those of others. We also hope it’ll be heaps of fun to play!


So if you have a few spare dollars, your support would mean a lot to us. Along with our dollar-for-dollar MATCH funding, $50 of your cash could allow us to make a whole mantis shrimp costume for one of our actors. $100 would cover all of mp3-player hire for the whole show. You can make a big difference to our project!
