Poetry – Film – Video Art – Exhibitions
Cementa_13 will be an inaugural contemporary arts festival taking place in the rural-industrial town of Kandos NSW. Over forty artists will exhibit video, installation, sound, 2d and 3d artworks in venues and locations across the town. Venues will include shop fronts, vacant lots, a disused school, scout hall, local pub, the local museum, golf-course, people’s homes, the surrounding bushlands, etc. The work will address the identity, history, and current social, environmental and economic context of the town. Both walking and cycling tours will be given every day of the festival, introducing audiences to the town, along a route that will incorporate all of the major exhibitions, emphasizing environmentally sound modes of transport. In addition, there will be specialised tours including an edible weed tour of the surrounding country, a bicycle tour by ArtCycle of local bushland, an escarpment hike and a winery tour.
Cementa will take place from Friday February 1 to Monday February 4 2013.

ABOUT KANDOS:
Kandos is a small industrial town located directly under a large escarpment in Central NSW. It is approximately 3 1/2 hours drive from Sydney, between Lithgow and Mudgee and was founded 99 years ago to house the work force of the Kandos Cement Works. Over its history, cement from Kandos has built the Harbour Bridge and much of the city of Sydney. Last year the cement works closed, leaving the town without a principle industry and an opportunity for transformation. We believe that the presence of this industrial heritage in the rural heartland of NSW will provide an ideal context for the demonstration of contemporary art’s capacity to describe, engage, critique, and celebrate both the world and our living in it.
We have applied for every funding opportunity we can. So far, we haven't heard back from any of them. We have every reason to hope that small dribbles of money will come our way. With this campaign we are asking you to help us provide accommodation for the artists.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT SO FAR INCLUDES:
· Local Business providing venues
Henbury Golf Club - Down the Track Café - Ad Hoc - The Brown Owl - The Railway Hotel – Dangar St. Church Buildings – Kandos Scout Hall – St Lawrence Church – CWA building – Kandos Museum – Kandos Projects – Noyes St. Gardens – Dabee Rd Gardens
· Sydney journalists and blog writers will be contributing invaluable write-ups and articles that will ensure the future success of Cementa as a biennial event.
· Artists will be contributing up to $50,000 in artist fees and materials.
The community of Kandos and our art community in Sydney have so far pledged in-kind support of more than $80,000. To truly guarantee the success of this project for the future, we would like to provide quality accommodation for the artists, media personnel and writers in the Railway Hotel.
WHAT ARE WE ASKING FOR?
We are asking that your contribution of $50 will pay for a bed for one person for one night. Any extra money we raise will buy food. We believe the artists and media supporters deserve at least that for their amazing contribution.
This initiative is curated and managed by INDEX.studios and Kandos Projects. click on the links below to find out more about us:

Share this:$50 will pay for a bed for one night for one artist. So we have decided to give away one final edition fluorescent pink bumper sticker with every bed. "Cement a friendship. Visit Kandos" was used to promote the town by the local museum whilst the cement works were open. Now that the cement works have closed we bought the LAST 150!!
Donating to this cause automatically makes you an Art Hero. That's we are now offering a Four colour machine embroidered iron on "Art Hero" Cementa_13 Badge.
Circa 1970 drawing device was advertised as a 'SCIENTIFIC DRAWING TEACHER FOR YOUNG AND OLD'. "Will enlarge, reduce or reproduce original size maps, pictures, plans, photographs, etc." New in the box. Never Been Used!
Perhaps you would like to buy an artist a bed and a meal? If artists could eat harmonographs, we would give them one... but instead we are giving them away to the first 20 donations over $80. The twentieth century drawing machine for all ages! circa 1980, these harmonographs have been tested and they work, but lets be honest, its just the idea that they exist that gives us pleasure. Original packaging, unopened, a collectors delight.
