Go! Alliance in collaboration with Sydney Cyclist and the Bicycle Film Festival is sponsoring a unique retrospective of Australian cycling history during the upcoming Sydney Bicycle Film Festival on Saturday, October 27th from 6 PM. The festival is being held outdoors at Cathedral Square, St. Mary's Church on College St. in Sydney.
The evening will feature a talk and slide show by famous cycling historian Jim Fitzpatrick and a short film on the historic 1912 Satchel Ride route from Adelaide to Sydney and plans for bringing it back to life. We are also inviting all those with pre-1930's bicycles to come and put them on show. Period costume or tweed is encouraged.
Admission is included in the film festival's $15 entry ticket fee for
Program #5 (

BIKES, BREAD AND WINE: L’EROICA “Italy’s retro bike race is a cycling classic. Running on gravel roads with 80’s bikes, woollen jerseys and fuelled by rich Italian food and wine, the glorious L’Eroica race captures the golden era of cycling.” – Guardian U.K. The film follows cycling greats of the past, and some of the younger enthusiasts for an excellent view of the magical land and race.
Here's how you can help make this happen:In order to cover Jim's travel costs and attendance we are seeking to raise $350 over the next 2 weeks. $50 contributions will also be offered either one of Jim's books - Major Taylor in Australia or The Bicycle in Wartime for just $10 at the festival - autographed of course! The first person to contribute $100 will be entitled to a rare hard back copy of the wonderful The Bicycle and the Bush for $50 (valued at over $100).
However, all contributions are welcome! All proceeds beyond $350 will also go to Jim in recognition of his commitment to reviving cycling history.
If you were ever curious as to how Australia first entered the bicycling age, come and be entertained as you hear about the fascinating history and tales of cycling adventure that once featured so prominently in Australian life!
