TAFE SA’s Solar Car project, “Solar Spirit”, has been in existence since the year 2000 and involves the contribution of volunteers, industry, students and staff that extends well beyond curriculum expectations. While every effort is made to connect with the educational programs, it is the unswerving commitment of the Solar Spirit team to renewable energy and sustainability which has been responsible for pushing the message of a greener future to the wider Australian community. Participation of Solar Spirit in the biennial World Solar Challenge is an important and inseparable component of delivering this message. TAFE SA Solar Spirit has a history of successful participation in the World Solar Challenge since its inaugural entry in 2001. However, we need your help to update the car ahead of next Year's event.

Our Patron

Our Solar Car is put together on a shoe-string budget using off-the-shelf components. It is the innovation of our volunteers and students that makes the important difference. Many cars that we compete against in the World Solar Challenge have multi-million dollar budgets; we can only dream about that! Our immediate needs include: purchase of a new electric motor, motor controller, and set of batteries with a cost well beyond the value of this crowd-funding project. Every dollar is helpful.

We are confident that we can have the car ready for the 2015 World Solar Challenge provided we can improve its performance and reliability. Improving the conversion of the sun's energy into propelling the solar car efficiently, can be a costly exercise and your donation will help us to achieve this goal.
