Miasmata is a 14 minute 16mm short film which tells the story of a small fishing town that is contaminated by electro-magnetic waves.
Max has lived in Port Myrtle his whole life. He has a pregnant wife, a young son, and a job in the local power station. One day while he is working, the reactor he is manning overheats, and sends a toxic quantity of electro-magnetic waves out over his beloved town.
At first Max denies anything is wrong; he doesn’t want to leave Port Myrtle for fear of losing everything. His wife Jen, however, has other plans when she learns the dangers they face in staying. Meanwhile their young son Felix becomes obsessed with visions induced by the electro-magnetism; black, bell-shaped figures with white orb heads that glide around the industrial estate at night, and by the sea during the day. He longs to join them; to be one of them.
As the town falls deeper into panic, Max must come to his senses, to avoid losing his family and his sanity. The choice is starkly simple; leave, or stay.
