Our Story In A Nutshell

We're Hoki Dental.

We’re building a brand new dental practice in the heart of Hokitika and we'd love your support to help us create eight new full-time jobs right here on the Coast.

After three years in the planning, construction of Hoki's long-awaited, brand-new, purpose-built dental surgery is finally underway. All going well, we should be up and running before Christmas, which is pretty exciting.

However, despite our plans being all on track, we can't ignore the massive challenge we're all facing post-COVID. 

Tourism's dried up. 

Job's are going/gone. 

Money's tight. 

It's gonna be tough for families and businesses alike.

But that doesn't mean we're powerless to make things better.

So we sat around and thought to ourselves, "Surely there's gotta be a way that we can not only make dentistry more affordable for everyone but also create more jobs at the same time!"

After some looooong brainstorming sessions, someone said, "Why not put up a Pozible project?"

What's a Pozible project you ask?

In essence, Pozible is a fundraising site that enables us to raise enough money to create eight new jobs here on the Coast.

Here's How It Works

Right now, we've got the budget to build and set-up a 4-chair dental surgery. And when we open up, our current budget allows us to employ a dentist (that's me), a dental assistant (that's my wife) and a receptionist (as yet, unknown). So this is our bare-bones skeleton team.

However, as you can imagine with 4 dental chairs, we've got much bigger plans for Hoki Dental.

And that's where this Pozible project comes in.

To the right of your screen, you'll see 6 different "Rewards." Take a quick look at them now.

As you can see, each reward is made up of a range of dental care that's designed to save you hundreds and even thousands of dollars. What’s more, not only will these packages save you a heap of money now, they can also save you countless hours and dollars that you’d otherwise spend in the dental chair for years to come. I'll explain more about that shortly.

But for now, as you can see, regardless of what level of dental care you need, there’s a "Reward" that’s just right for you.  

Now if you look below, you'll see a graphic that associates a specific job with a corresponding target goal. 

As you can see, the more support our project receives, the more patients we'll have from day one. And the more patients we have from day one, the more jobs we're able to create.

Quite simply, whenever we reach a goal target, we'll employ the corresponding team member. 

In this way, everybody wins.

• We have a big-enough patient-base to sustainably employ our Dream-Team from day one.

But right now, the important thing to remember is, when you select the Reward that’s right for you, you will not be charged unless we reach our first target of $20,000. 

So if we don’t reach $20,000 by September 30, you won’t be charged a single cent... and of course, we won't employ a second dental assistant :(

However, should we raise $20,000, well naturally, your pledge will become binding and will ultimately be processed so that you can enjoy the benefits of your Reward and we can employ our second dental assistant (and every other position we "unlock") from day one :)

In this way, there’s absolutely no risk to you whatsoever. 

We either reach target and everyone wins or we don't reach target and you don't lose a cent.

I should also point out, these targets do NOT represent wages. Rather, they are simply targets that reflect the number of patients we'll need from our Rewards to sustainably employ the respective team members.  

In short, More Rewards = More Patients. More Patients = More Jobs.

Your Rewards - 7 Things You Need To Know

1. HD Dental Exam

Your mouth is intimately connected with your whole-body wellbeing. There's much, much more to oral health than just teeth and gums. That's why we adopt extraordinary measures to uncover the full extent of your true oral health. 

For instance, here's just a small snapshot of the care you'll receive during your HD Exam...

• A thorough examination of your lymph nodes, salivary glands, facial skin and oral tissues screening for a whole heap of diseases from bad breath to oral cancer and everything in between;

• Near-infra-red scanning of your teeth to distinguish between "reversible decay" (i.e. the kind that doesn't need to be drilled) and cavities that actually require filling. As you can imagine, this alone can save you big $$$'s from getting any unnecessary fillings;

• Bacteriological testing to assess the presence and severity of disease-causing bacteria. This simple yet powerful testing plays a pivotal role in reducing your need for invasive future dental treatment;

• A full digital scan of your mouth. For reasons I'll explain in an upcoming update, this single step will dramatically transform (for the better) the way you receive dental care;  

• Comprehensive photography and videography of your mouth and smile which allows you to see exactly what we see. Why do we do this? So there'll never be any mystery or mistrust... just complete confidence that you're only ever getting the treatment you actually need.

• A "mini-CAT Scan" of your jaws and airways looking for a wide range of conditions from snoring to cancer. (NOTE: If you went to Christchurch for one of these mini-CAT scans, you'd easily pay upwards of $295.00. So this alone makes your Reward way more valuable than what you'd ever pay for an "ordinary" dental check-up).

Because there's so much more to your HD Exam than we've got time to explain here, I'll create a separate video that gives you a much deeper appreciation of what makes it so impactful on your overall health and wellbeing. 

But for now, don't look at your Reward thinking you're just getting a "regular" check-up. You're getting so, so, so much more.

2. Smile Protection Plan

After conducting your HD Exam and fully digitising your mouth and smile, I'll personally go away and pour through the mountain of information we gathered to create your personal Smile Protection Plan.

In your fully-customised portfolio, I'll not only reveal the true nature of your 7 Pillars of Oral Health, I'll also give you all the knowledge you need to regain and maintain your own oral health for life. 

This alone makes your Reward invaluable. That’s because, over your lifetime, this powerful tool will save you considerable time, money and dental tissue and simultaneously boost your overall physical, emotional and social wellbeing. 

I guarantee... you've never seen anything so revealing and so empowering when it comes to your mouth and smile. This truly is priceless. 

3. Early Bird Bonuses

As you can see, each of our Rewards includes Exclusive Early Bird Bonuses. 

As the name suggests, these are exclusive bonuses that are strictly limited to the first handful of people who pledge their support. Once the limited number of Early Bird Rewards are snapped up, that's it... you won't get another chance to benefit from these exclusive bonuses. 

Clearly, these Early Bird Bonuses are worth literally hundreds and thousands of dollars. 

So if any of these Rewards appeal to you, I encourage you to pledge your support before your Early Bird Bonuses disappear for good. 

4. Essential vs. Elective Treatment

In some Rewards, you'll see that I make a distinction between "Essential" fillings and "Elective" fillings.

In essence, "Essential" fillings are fillings that need to be placed in order to restore decay / lost fillings / broken teeth.

On the other hand, "Elective" fillings are fillings that you request to replace unsightly but otherwise intact fillings.  

5. Your 12 Months Of Care

Naturally, when this project ends, it'll take weeks and maybe even months for us to see every single person who supported us. 

With this in mind, I just want to reassure you that the 12 months of care your Reward entitles you to doesn't commence the day this project concludes. Rather, your 12 months of care will start from the day you first visit our practice :)

Oh, I should also mention that you have up to 12 months from the day this project ends to come in for your first visit. So don't feel you have to rush to get in to see us before your 12 months is up. We'll take great care of you no matter when you decide to come in ;)

6. Savings and Unused Credit

As a supporter of our project, at the end of your 12 months of care, we'll give you a report card that'll show you exactly how much money your Reward saved you over that time. 

Now on the off-chance that you haven't received the full cash value of your Reward by the end of your 12 months, we'll credit your account with the "unused" balance for you to use at any time in future. That way there's no risk of you "losing" by pledging your support ;)

Naturally, while these Rewards or any unused credits can not be redeemed for cash, they can both be easily transferred to other family members or friends :)

Oh, I almost forgot... what happens if you pledge your support for a reward and for whatever reason it turns out that the care offered in your Reward is not really appropriate for you? For instance, what if you pledge for the Invisalign Reward and it turns out that Invisalign is not appropriate for you? 

In this unlikely scenario, you'll have three choices:

a) Transfer the Reward to someone else;

b) Have the value of your Pledge credited to your account (or to someone else's) for you to use towards routine dental care;

c) Have the money refunded 

Basically, whatever happens, we'll take good care of you :)

7.  Who Shouldn't Pledge

While we'd love for everyone to support our project, there are a small number of people who we don't believe will get value from our Rewards.

As such, we think it's only fair to say upfront, that if you're really nervous and seriously believe you can't sit in a dental chair and have work done without some form of sedation, then I'd respectfully suggest that you pass on pledging your support. That's because the layout of our surgery legally prohibits us from performing any form of care where our patients are not fully conscious. 

So while we're happy to go to extraordinary lengths to make you feel comfortable and at-ease at all times, unfortunately, we can't offer you any form of sedation. So if that's you, then perhaps it's best that you support us in the alternative ways described below.

Ok. So that pretty much covers everything you need to know about our Rewards,

But right now, you're probably wondering, "So what are the 8 new jobs we're actually creating?"

Our Dream-Team: The 8 New Jobs We're Creating

While our adoption of revolutionary technologies will enable us to deliver extraordinary dentistry, what'll really set us apart is the extraordinary level of care we’ll provide you. 

Sure, it’s easy to talk the talk. But delivering truly extraordinary care is THE driving force behind our vision.

Now in order to deliver extraordinary care, we need two key ingredients: 

a) Passionately compassionate team members, and

b) A whole lot of training. 

Now because this training will be intense and ongoing, the ideal would be to employ our entire Dream-Team up-front. That way, we can all go through the training together to ensure we’re all “on the same page” from day one.

And that’s the whole point of this Pozible project - to establish a big enough patient-base that gives us the stability and strength required to sustainably employ our entire Dream-Team before we open our doors. 

As I mentioned above, we’re all geared up to employ a dental assistant and a receptionist from day one. But our vision is much bigger than this and to realise this vision we need to employ these additional 8 key people... 

Dental Assistants #2, #3 and #4

If I'm to be the sole dentist in the practice, I'll work two dental chairs. Working under these conditions, the ideal would be to have two dental assistants in total. This is why an additional dental assistant is at the top of our list. 

Next, once we have a Therapist/Hygienist, a third assistant will be required.

And of course, once we secure the services of a second dentist, we'll definitely need at least one more assistant (if not two).  

Therapist-Hygienist

Once we've secured our first additional dental assistant, the next position we'd love to fill is that of a Dental Therapist / Hygienist. 

In addition to carrying out all of your dental hygiene care (i.e. dental cleaning), this key member will also enable us to provide free dental care to children and adolescents under the age of 18. As you can imagine, securing this team member is vital for the health and wellbeing of our local youth. 

Digital Assets Manager

As you're about to discover, Hoki Dental is set to be one of the most technologically-advanced dental studios in all of New Zealand. With the plethora of cutting-edge tools and techniques we'll employ, there's going to be a massive need for a talented individual to manage all of our digital imaging, content creation, editing and publishing. 

Aesthetician

Once we've established our core dental team (i.e. everyone above), it'll be time to expand our range of services to include facial and body cosmetic services. While this care will primarily focus on facial aesthetic procedures such as photorejuvenation, botox and permanent hair reduction, we'll ultimately expand the delivery of these services to other parts of the body ;)

Dentist #2

With a bit of luck and a dash of good fortune, we'll be so busy that the only way to cope with the demand is to secure the services of a second dentist. 

Naturally, this will require us to attract a dentist to the Coast - something that's historically not been easy to do. 

However, in our current economic climate, I'm quietly confident that the quality of our dental care along with the Coast's lifestyle choices will be more than enough to attract an experienced clinician... and hopefully their family as well. 

Receptionist #2

If we're going to be busy enough to support a second dentist then we'll definitely need a second receptionist to help us co-ordinate everyone's care.

So I hope that's given you a bit of an insight into our Dream-Team and their roles in providing you with world-class care.

Now regardless of whether or not you personally pledge your support by selecting one of our Rewards, there are two other ways you can help us create these new jobs that I'd be super grateful to you for doing...

1.  Tell as many people you know about this project. 

Whether it be via your social media or face-to-face conversation, telling everyone you know about what we're trying to achieve and how to find this project would be deeply, deeply appreciated.  

2. Let potential team members know we're soon going to be on the look-out for them.

Quite simply, all the money we raise through this project will be used purely to employ and train as many of our Dream Team from day one.

As we stand right now, we have all the resources we need to build our dental surgery and employ our skeleton staff. So regardless of whether or not this project reaches target, Hoki Dental is coming to town ;)

However, the number of jobs we can create and sustain is directly tied to the size of our patient base before we open our doors. 

In short, more patients = more jobs.
