German Cinema Melbourne - a group of German film aficionados has decided to organise a German Film Festival in November 2017 as a placeholder for the well-known Festival of German Films.
Peter, Irina, Marko, Claudia and Daniela have curated a snapshot of the German cinema landscape and its different genres with ten new films (all produced in 2016/2017) and one restored classic film to be screened in November 2017 at the Backlot Studios in Melbourne. As a small festival team with a limited budget and limited time, we cannot replace the large and multi-city Festival of German films as it ran from 2002-2016, but with our expertise, we can curate a festival that ties German culture and German cinema together, providing a window into current societal, cultural and cinematic developments in Germany.
A film expert will introduce every film in the festival and the Backlot studios provide space for reflection and conversation after the film. The curatorial concept for German Cinema Melbourne hinges on our position as a group of passionate film lovers, who want to save German cinema from disappearing from Melbourne’s cultural landscape. Various events will embed the films into their wider discourses and also provide space for discussion, meetings and simply a get-together of friends and film lovers.

Budget Overview
Potential Challenges
Film Festivals are expensive... We need to pay for the films and the cinema, and we'd also really love to at least have an opening night party. The Backlot Studios are a perfect location, as we'll have the cinema to ourselves!
The challenge is huge - we need to collect a minimum of $24 000 to run the Festival with 11 films.
We really want to run this festival to make sure that the German Film Festival doesn't disappear of the cinema landscape in Melbourne!
