After the removal of Sydney's Rainbow Crossing in April 2013 the DIY chalk alternatives became 'a thing' in Sydney, the rest of Australia and then exploded all over the world with rainbow chalkings spontaneously happening in the U.S.A, the UK, Europe and Africa.
It turned a negative into a positive and became a way to spread a beautiful message of equality for the LGBTQI community. Check out some of the images here:
For the one year anniversary of #DIYRainbow this week we've launched a Pop Up Gallery on Oxford Street displaying pictures and stories from the Facebook Page.
We'd like to collate these photos into an amazing 80+ colour page coffee table style book. Not only would it make a great physical record of the #DIYRainbow movement but also be a positive book for our community. The images demonstrate amazing support for the LGBTQI community from regional centres to cities all over the globe.
All proceeds from the final book will go to Twenty10.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will be used for the following:
* $500 reimbursement for half of the costs of our Pop Up Gallery promoting this Pozible.
* Minor admin costs associated in obtaining clearances from photographers and participants in photos.
* Some design assistance to get our dreams in the best format.
* From file to print - the cost of materials and printing an initial run.
It's a non-profit and all-loving project here. As a grassroots community movement we are able to get legal and design assistance well below market rates. The big cost involved here is printing the initial run of the physical book. If we raise more than the target amount we can reduce the expected price of the book as we get more economies of scale. We're expecting the book to retail at $60.

The Challenges
Our biggest challenge is obtaining clearances from people who are in the photos and/or from photographers who have taken them. This is a huge undertaking, already started, by our small volunteer team. This is not a monetary issue as it's emailing forms etc but could take longer than expected. Having said that, there are no other major obstacles in our way. We have a strong Facebook Page with over 55,000 followers and could expand our volunteer pool on this issue if need be.
We are very confident we can turn around this book by November 2014 and have it available in time for Christmas retailing at $60. All proceeds from the final book will go to Twenty10 who do amazing work in Australia with LGBTIQ youth.
