Founded in 2012 by light artist James Tapscott, Globelight is a program of events and
exhibitions showcasing new talent in light art and design. Directed and curated by
Tapscott and Sam Mitchell-Fin, a Sydney based light artist and gallery director, the Globelight
progam is aiming to build on the success of its inaugural event in 2013.
Artists and Designers are selected from around the country and overseas to submit or
create light based works that are in any format, be it object-based, installation, photography,
projection or video. The aim of this is to showcase a wide range of approaches
to the medium by talent from different backgrounds in order to enhance our understanding
of the capabilities of light as a medium. The line between art and design is
often blurred when working with light and Globelight provides a platform for creatives to
push boundaries and build partnerships while utilising exhibition opportunities not often
available in Australia. We're all about making ideas happen...

How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will be used firstly to hire the spaces and provide the necessary infrastructure for the works to be exhibited. We need more than $5000 but hopefully with a grant and some corporate sponsorship we can get ourselves over the line, and any extra will go to realizing the Artists' proposals and paying them for their efforts.
our "bare bones" budget just to make it happen is basically:
venue hire $11,000
infrastructure / installation costs $1500
book production $2500
marketing / opening event expenses $500
we'd LOVE to be able to provide each exhibiting artist with some funds for their effort and to help make their proposal happen so any funding we can raise over the "bare bones" budget will go towards that. Some of the works are very ambitious and it'd be great to have them realised to their full potential so please be generous and know that your donation will go towards something amazing!

The Challenges
The biggest obstacle is funding (hence the campaign)... The proposals we've already received from artists are really exciting and it promises to be a fantastic program. Your pledge could mean the difference between an artist realizing their vision or having to compromise or even failing to see it through... So please get involved!!
