Growing Young explores the relationship between two women at very different stages in their lives; 16 year old Minks and her Nan, who has dementia. Nan is always trying to care for Minks, with which her forgetfulness becomes frustrating at times. Nan's good sense of humour makes light of their situation however one day things get turned upside down and Minks discovers what she thought to always be right may not be the case.

Our total budget for this project is $8000. We are in the process of sourcing the remaining funds elsewhere. Therefore we really appreciate all the support from this campaign! Any additional pledges above the $3000 target will only help to make this project even more possible!!


DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Growing Young is a real, honest and sincere film with a hauntingly beautiful feel.
The undertone of dementia explores both the funny and gloomy side of the illness but on a deeper level the film explores the relationship between two women at very different fazes in their lives. It deals with the difficulties of a large generation gap, the ups and downs surrounding mental illness and the love between family members. Everyone has a relationship of some sort like this and therefore I want teenagers, adults and the elderly to be able to connect with this film on an individual level.

My own Nan had dementia and although this film isn’t my own personal story, elements are inspired by my experiences and the film is an exploration of my own memories. While writing this film I have had the pleasure to meet with other people who have dealt with a loved one having Alzheimer’s. It’s been a lot of fun writing this script and an eye opening and heart warming journey learning more about Alzhiemer's and strong bonds that are never broken.

We have a strong crew that is very talented and beautiful locations already in mind. Our biggest challenge at this stage is raising the funds to be able to bring this film to life. Dementia affects the lives of so many people and we are confident that those who have been touched by Alzheimer's will band with us to help create awareness while also bringing an interesting and heartwarming film to the screen.


HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?

All funds will go towards the basic costs for putting a film together like this.
It'll be used for:
- Camera and equipment hire
- Production Design (Costumes, props, hair and make-up)
- The basics of catering and travel costs
- Marketing, festivals and getting this film in front of audiences!
