I am thrilled to announce that I will be presenting a new theatre work “The Voices of Joan of Arc” for Next Wave Festival 2016 in Melbourne - But I need your help!

This work will be the first piece that I have made since returning to Australia after 6 years of deepening my practice overseas  in Poland (Song of the Goat & Odra Ensemble) and the U.S.A (Shakespeare & Company). Through "The Voices of Joan of Arc" I am re-discovering my voice as a theatre-maker, bringing together my diverse influences, taking creative risks and forging a new way of making work that I hope will speak to Australian audiences.

I am beginning a new collaboration with violinist and vocalist Xani Kolac (The TWOKS) and reconnecting with my colleague from Poland, actor & theatre-maker Daniel Han. And I am so grateful to have on board the incredible Piper Huynh as my producer.

About the show
The Voices of Joan of Arc” is an intimate performance about the silencing of women’s voices and what happens when we speak truth to power. Based on the detailed transcripts of Joan of Arc’s trial for heresy I am weaving together text, music, song and story to give voice to Joan’s own words and re-imagine this iconic tale. Audiences enter a musical world of wild lamentation, devotional hymns and original compositions by Xani Kolac of The TWOKS.

In our culture, where women continue to have a tenuous relationship to power, Joan’s story still resonates and allows us to ask questions like how do you speak truth to power? How do we respond to violence against women? And do we need violence and conflict when seeking to reclaim power?

"Women’s voices meet in transcendent harmonies that pierce the night air, underscored by violin, echoing bells and driven by the pounding drums of war. From the courtroom, to her prison cell, to the battlefields of France… Out of the fire, we hear Joan speak."
