It is common knowledge that many Asylum seekers coming to Australia are denied their human right to safety and endure many years of detention.
As visitors we have seen the impact indefinite detention has on people and the trauma they endure.
For some friends the legal process leads them on a road to nowhere and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. For these people a change in government is their only hope for freedom.
It is not surprising that in these instances people give up hope, especially in the current political climate where neither side of government acknowledges their inaliable human right to seek asylum.
For some who have endured many years in detention they lose all sight of hope and decide to go home to an uncertain fate where they may be killed. In these instances, I have heard friends say that facing death is less scary than the ongoing torture of indefinite detention.
I am organising this pozible with a heavy heart as one of our friends in Melbourne detention centre has decided to return home. for safety reasons i cannot share any details about them, but if you wish to know details please feel free to get in touch and with their permission i will inform you about their departure.
This person upon their return will need to start over in uncertain and dangerous conditions. After nearly six years in detention they have nothing and nowhere to go.
The Australian government takes no responsibility.
It is my hope that we can raise some money to support them in their return, to increase their chances of a safe arrival and a chance at a new life.
Any amount you can offer will help.
A big thank you from behind the wire and from a very concerned friend.
