Musical Instruments for the Outback
So, the next adventure of our lives begins in 2017!
I have accepted a job in a Remote South Australian school from January 2017 as THE music teacher! I'll be heading up there with my super-wife Amanda, and will be joined in February by our soon-to-be-born daughter (whose tentative name is Elquimo).
With Elquimo still tucked inside Amanda's belly, we went to visit the school in October to meet the staff and students, and also to see what resources the school has, and what I might need to organise for next year. Amanda and I were pleasantly surprised by what the school already has to offer music-wise, but in order to build on this for next year, we need YOUR help!
With your donation, we will be able to purchase brand new instruments suitable for students of all ages. Complementing the marimbas, glockenspiels and keyboards already at the school, having ukuleles and guitars will appeal to the more senior students, inspiring them to continue with their music studies. Recorder is already well-established at the school, so we want to continue this program, having enough recorders for everybody.
How The Funds Will Be Used
100% of the funds (minus pozible fees) will be used solely for the purchasing of musical instruments and accessories.
The target of $1,500 will cover a class set of guitars as well as an assortment of ukuleles, recorders, kazoos and music books. If we are fortunate enough to raise more than the target, potentially we can buy better than just the 'base model' of guitar, more of them, extra strings etc. Rest assured that all the money, however much we receive, will go towards instruments or accessories directly benefitting the students.
The Challenges
There are no hugely challenging challenges. All the money raised, much or little, will be used to purchase instruments. If we only raise a little, that will all still go towards instruments.
If we raise $1,000,000, the challenge will be on how to spend it all...
Kazoo Hero
Be a Kazoo Hero! $10 will ensure that the Kazoo cupboard stays sufficiently stocked all through the year.
Revenge of the Recorder
Learning the Recorder in school is a rite of passage. Help my outback crew experience this life-changing instrument for themselves! For every recorder purchased here, we'll send you your very own kazoo as our thank-you!
Don't Puke in the Uke!
Imagine a line of primary school students in Hawaiian outfits, playing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on ukulele. Cute, huh! Well, it probably won't happen like that, but learning the ukulele will still be on the menu for my kiddies. Choose to fund a uke, we'll send you your very own kazoo so you can perform your own rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow!
The Recor-lele
Can't decide on a Recorder or a Ukulele? Why not get both?! If you get both, we'll send you a kazoo AND your very own recorder! If that's not awesome, I don't know what is!
Guitar Hero
Be a hero. Give a guitar. If you choose to buy an instrument that gently weeps, we'll send you an instrument that made you gently weep - a recorder! We'll also throw in a kazoo or two, plus your very own 'Learn to play recorder' book!
2 for the price of 2!
If you feel that one guitar isn't enough, help us purchase two! Just as you need both a knife and fork to eat dinner, you need two guitars to really get the hang of how to play the instrument. It's science. Choose this, and we'll send you your very own UKULELE. If you twist my arm enough, we'll throw in a kazoo or two too!
Patron Saint of the Outback
Only for the rich and famous. Not for the faint of heart. If you choose to purchase this, of which there is only one, you will henceforth be known as the Patron Saint of the Outback and honoured with your picture printed, framed and mounted in the music room for all to admire. We will send you a ukulele, a recorder, a music book and as many kazoos as you want, Your Grace!
