Hey friends,

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Jess. That's "boy" Jess. I'm here to humbly ask your assistance in releasing my debut album, "The Surrealist".

I've been doing this music thing for almost 10 years now, starting off playing in high school punk bands and moving on to the eclectic, incestuous and loveable Adelaide bands scene where I spent countless nights in seedy dives sharing the stage with the kids from Double Handed, Illicit Eve, August Falls, Delusions of Grandma and (still, although in less seedy venues) The Venice Whalers.

I spent the first half of this year overseas discovering the American continents and it inspired me to write and record my first solo album. I've been working out of a home studio for about a year now, honing my production skills to the point of being able to perform and produce the record all on my lonesome. Most of the tracking is done, I now just need to finish the mixes. But of course, releasing an album doesn't end there.

This is where you come in. I've just moved to Melbourne and I don't have a steady income, so getting the cash together to press the album and give it a fighting chance doesn't come easily. I need a few grand to help press CD and vinyl copies of the album and have it mastered by the supremely talented David Briggs, with whom I've worked on the Double Handed and inuette albums. I will also use the money for online and street press advertising to maximise the exposure of the record. As I'm totally new to crowdfunding I've set my Pozible goal at $1000, but that's only a small portion of what I'll actually be spending, so if I reach my goal (hopefully!) the fundraising won't stop there! It'll cost me around $3000 to pay for the pressing and promotion so that's ultimately what I'll need to raise.

I'm pretty excited to get this record out there and finally let everyone hear what I've been concocting. It's a melting pot of all my influences, from the simple pop of Crowded House or Joe Jackson to the quirkiness of Omar Rodriguez Lopez or Beck to the guitar blues of the Allman Bros Band or John Butler Trio.
