No matter how barren and empty, no matter how hot and dry, new and hopeful things sprout.
Life will always crack through.
Sprout is a new Australian play written by Jessica Bellamy and directed by Gin Savage, premiering at the Old Fitzroy Theatre from 26 October to 18 November 2011. This is a love story set in Australia near the end of the world, which asks its audience to consider what sort of links bind us in a world that is falling apart.
In this dying world, there is still the possibility of growth. A baby grows in one woman’s stomach, despite her grave fears for its future and anger at her incapacity to love it the way she feels she should. A relationship between two teenagers begins to flower and eventually to bloom. Everywhere, in a world that seems barren, new and hopeful things are sprouting.
The play is a call to arms to its audience to realise the situation of our planet before it is too late. We would like to use the emotional power of theatre to empower our audience members into a state of heightened social and communal awareness, and a desire to help our planet while we still can.
The Sprout production team are currently searching for supporters and welcoming donations from those wishing to contribute to the production of this play.
We seek to raise $6500 for the following extensive costs of bringing a new play to production:
- $1500 can subsidise the cost of a Publicist to promote our show.
- Another $800 allows for environmentally-friendly printing for posters, postcards, programmes and scripts.
- Another $2700 covers wages and rehearsal space for four days of script development of this brand new play, in August.
- Another $1500 allows us to purchase recycled materials to build a gorgeous set in the Old Fitzroy Theatre, choosing materials that are kind to the earth.
- If we happen to raise more than our requested amount of money, this profit will go directly towards our talented actors, creatives and production team.
For any donation of $20 and over, you will receive 1 or multiple entries into our raffle which includes prizes such as:
- A drawing from drawings by a writer, of your choice.
- Muffin and coffee pack from Redberry in Kings Cross
- A double pass to NIDA grad show of your choice (already drawn)
- A double pass to a preview performance of This Year's Ashes at Griffin Theatre Company (drawn TONIGHT)
