BEAUTIFUL NOISE. Dance + Harp Works

Hello and warm greetings from the Top End!
My name is Jessica Devereux.
I am a choreographer, performer and dance animateur living + working between Naarm Melbourne and Garrmalang Darwin, in Australia.

In June 2014, I am hosting a team of collaborators from around Australia to undertake a 1st stage creative development for a new dance work called BEAUTIFUL NOISE, to be created at Tracks Dance Studio (Frog Hollow Centre for the Arts.)
The project stems from my passion for collaboration, dance making, music, facilitating choreographic exploration and creating peroformance.
This is my first go at initiating an independent, group dance project of this scale.

CURRENT PRACTISE (as at 2014)
My core project with Tracks is to lead the annual Choreographic Development Program, which so far has supported 37 dance artists to expand their choreographic practice. The program has given me time and space to hone a series of approaches, experiments, fascinations and interests in contemporary dance making. I aim to facilitate ambitious and nurturing studio workshop experiences for dance artists and community.
My artistic practice is committed to physical release-work and somatic practice, finding humour, improvising and instincts, partnering, duetting, drawing stimulus from visual art and music, relational and communirt art practice, and forging long term artistic connection with people. My work as a dance animateur at Tracks is about providing spaces in which people can be vulnerable, connect, play, ask questions and observe and learn from each other in the studio.

CHALLENGES
One of my biggest challenges for this project is how to create an independent performance work when the collaborators are based in 4 different states. With financial support from Arts NT, Territory Wildlife Park, Tracks Dance and pozible campaign supporters, the participating artists will be able to gather together in Darwin for 4 weeks full-time, working towards the goal of a full-length ensemble performance work.
