I have very kindly been accepted to exhibit as part of the Yarra Ranges Council Regional Exhibition Program this year in June. I am very excited about this exhibition for a number of reasons. They are as follows;
1. I love bringing art to areas where it may not be as prevalent as in a city or urban area.
2. This will be my second solo exhibition
3. It is close to where I live and work, in an area I love and i can't wait to share my work with the people in my life who don't often get to see it in an exhibition space.
4. I love the Yarra Ranges and feel very privileged that the Council is supporting me to showcase my work in such a wonderful venue.
This exhibition will be a culmination of recent work that I have created over the last 3 years.

My artist statement is as follows;
Jessica Harris’ work employs line as a mechanism to depict almost every aspect of the human condition. In this way, the humble line becomes a representation of love, relationships, petty fights, loss, moments of clarity and the human psyche’s response to both domestic and global issues. Line becomes a way of telling a story and examining both the interior and exterior world.
However, Harris’ work does not dismiss line as a mere means to an end, rather the artist also explores the process of mark making and its importance to creating form and meaning. Taking inspiration from patterns in nature, the artist employs repetition in such a precise way that it is dazzling for the viewer. Furthermore, this repetition also assists in the creation of form, which is often related to place, such as an ocean traversed by asylum seekers.
In recent work, Harris has begun to explore collage as a way to challenge or create new meaning. The overlapping of multiple images allows for a multiplicity of entry points into the artwork. Additionally, the title of the work plays a large role in the artist’s ability to shift meaning and encourage multiple interpretations of the work.

Basically I am completely in love with line and collage and I am never bored with pushing them both in different directions.

The funds will be used to ease the financial burden of paying for rental of the art gallery for the duration of the exhibition and help to pay for the framing of my work.
I will use a small amount of the funds to support the opening night but the majority will go towards presenting my work in a professional and cohesive way to showcase my work in the best possible light.
Gallery Hire: $452
Framing: $450 %20
Opening night: $100
Fees and postage of rewards: $200

I see no obstacles for this project except for my own self doubt which every artist deals with at most times.
I deal with this as I do most things by working hard and getting over myself.
