On the 17th Of May 2013 a discarded Brunswick shop front will be transformed into a dark den of twisted art, showcasing some of Melbourne’s finest upcoming and established local artists.
The Title of the exhibition is 'THE DARKNESS WITHIN' and this is also the theme! 18 amazingly talented artists have been chosen to fill the space with a dark atmosphere of art, creating works in mediums ranging from audio/visual, painting, sculpture, photography, music, performance and creepy puppets. Not to be missed!
This will be the first of a number of pop up exhibitions planned for Brunswick Gallery before hopefully securing permanent gallery space. Our aim is to provide support for local artists, a point of interest for the community and to make good use of some of the empty shops and spaces in our neighbourhood. Brunswick is a vibrant cultural community that prides itself on its creativity and diversity and we believe our gallery will be welcome.
We have just secured a great location for the Exhibition and will be held at 286 Albert Street Brunswick, it’s a great shop front of an art space called the White Elephant which they have rented to us for the exhibition.
We also have something special planned for opening night…guests will enter the gallery to find the space in near darkness. Each guest will be given their own lantern to navigate their way around and experience the art appearing through the darkness within. This will add to the atmosphere and uniqueness of the experience. All Pozible Supporters will be invited to the opening night and welcomed with a big smile!
We are trying to co-ordinate this on a shoestring, calling on volunteers and sponsorship from other local businesses however there are still a number of costs we can’t get around. Our main cost is rental of the perfect exhibition space needed to exhibit this twisted show for four weeks (to include set up and pack down), estimated at $5,000. This is what Pozible support will go mainly towards.
Other expenses include insurance ($1200), advertising ($650), lighting ($300), lanterns ($250) building and display materials ($500) Opening Night refreshments ($400) and printing ($1000).
