Summer Solo Series is an exciting and unique dance project, that provides a valuable opportunity for dance artists to create, develop and perform short new solo dance works. Every participant in SSS choreographs a 3-5 minute solo on a dancer and performs a solo choreographed by another participant. SSS is dedicated to creating opportunities for dance artists to develop skills as a choreographer and dancer, explore creative new ideas, expand artistic networks and continue building a stronger, diverse and inclusive dance community.
What makes SSS unique is the chance process taken at the beginning of the project. Once the applications to be involved close in early December, those participating have their name places into a hat. One at a time each participant draws a name from the hat, the name they draw is the dancer they choreograph a 3-5 minute solo on. When all the names are drawn, every participant will choreograph a solo on a dancer and perform a solo choreographed on them. Rehearsals begin at the end of the draw and continue until the 4 performances at Dancehouse from February 21-23. This process gives participants an opportunity to expand their artistic networks through working with people they might not normally work with.
The dream for SSS is to become an annual event occurring every summer, that provides a supportive platform for dance artists to develop their skills whilst establishing new artistic partnerships within the various dance communities.

How The Funds Will Be Used
As the Summer Solo Series is an unfunded dance project, this Pozible campaign will go a long way to raising the funds required to produce this valuable opportunity for the dancers/choreographers participating.
Overall the funds required to produce the SSS will be approximately $6,000. This includes Venue hire, Equipment, Technicians for performances, FOH & BOH staff, Videographer, Photographer, Insurance, APRA music license, Advertising, Printing and other costs associated with producing the Summer Solo Series.
None of the participants are being paid for these performances and neither is the producer putting everything together. This project is all about creating an opportunity for artists and making things happen without relying on funding from governments. Your support will go a long way to assisting this project continue to develop and all support will be greatly appreciated by everyone involved in the Summer Solo Series.

The Challenges
An unsuccessful Pozible campaign is the biggest risk for the Summer Solo Series as is will make producing the event very difficult. Last year the producer of SSS contributed approximately $2,000 of his own money to provide this fantastic opportunity for the dancers/choreographers participating. Your support will be vital in achieving the ongoing future of this valuable opportunity for dancers and choreographers.
