I am an Australian journalist living in Afghanistan. I live with the locals and tell real stories about real people.

I’m trained to report the facts as they stand on the ground, but the longer I’ve lived here, the more I’ve realised how narrow mainstream media is.

This place is full of people who dance and sing and love and hate and cry and wish and want and hope.

Just like you.

This is where A Good Brief began.

At first I wrote to news outlets all over the world to tell the other side of Afghanistan.

But no one wanted to run this type of story.
"I think we'll just take a 30 second grab."
"The focus isn't on Afghanistan anymore."

Australians are kind-hearted people. We are accepting and generous but the Australian populace is being shut out of any contextual information to make decisions themselves – they trust the hype of political and media reporting.

This Pozible campaign is about funding A Good Brief's Middle Eastern Campaign: Afghan Refugees. A Good Brief is a new way to present the media. It’s interactive multimedia delivered straight from the horses (or camel’s?) mouth.

It’s a publication unlike any other.

We will deliver full layout stories containing video, audio, images and articles using information sources straight from the ground in Afghanistan. Drop by on Facebook to see the project develop before your eyes and chat with me from Afghanistan - www.facebook.com/agoodbrief

We provide the context, you form your own opinion.

What is the outcome?

Creating a publication, especially one across a range of media like A Good Brief, is challenging and ever changing.

During the Afghan Refugees campaign I will produce at least three multimedia layouts including interviews with real people in Afghanistan, to be published on the A Good Brief website.

Refugee issues are a hot topic at the moment this campaign will the focus topics of the campaign as I tell the refugee story from the point of view of Afghanistan. You will get to hear stories straight from the refugees themselves as well as analysis and opinion - you can even get involved and write your own opinion piece.

In addition to the layouts the social media feed is an important aspect of A Good Brief and keeping people onboard to maintain them is critical.

So, you are pledging to helping this campaign run over the coming weeks and the creation of an eternal record of the the impact of refugee laws on those in Afghanistan. The estimated campaign run time is four weeks in which we will be collecting content and preparing it for publication.

The Challenges

There is always a risk with journalism anywhere.

Specific to where I am now:
- There is a war going on, war is risky
- The Taliban like to take hostage westerners for money
- Afghanistan is one of the most dusty and harsh environments in the world and it's hard on gear. Breakdowns are frequent so some of your pledged money goes towards keeping things running.
- The Afghans who talk to me take a big risk, probably the biggest risk of all.

I've been working in Afghanistan for almost a year now and have learned to deal with these issues and deliver content. That won't change.

Latte Change: Pledge the change from one of your daily coffees, and we'll include you in our weekly Facebook thank-you-round up. You can also sit smug knowing you helped keep A Good Brief, and free press going.
