The Doctor's Wife 2: Our Big Gay Country Wedding is a follow up to the independently produced, award-winning documentary The Doctor's Wife (www.doctorswifemovie.com). The film will be an exploration of marriage equality in Australia through the eyes of Jonathan Duffy (The Doctor's Wife) and Vincent Cornelisse (The Doctor), an openly gay couple thinking about taking the next step in their relationship.

The Doctor's Wife 2 will be a balanced view of the important and dividing issue of marriage equality, seeking to establish whether there is a qualifiable non-religious reason to be against marriage equality. The documentary will interview well-known and ordinary people from all walks of life who represent varied views on the issue of gay marriage, whilst following the journey of Jono and Vinnie returning to their old home and much-loved country town of Munduberra to have a wedding.

This big gay country wedding is a gesture that we believe will show (especially to politicians and legislation makers) that many non-gay Australians are indeed in favour of reforms to the marriage act and equal rights.

The Doctor's Wife 2 will chart the history of marriage, examining how it has changed, why it was created, how the practices differ from country to country and what role religion plays in the formalising of love through marriage. The documentary will also explore the meaning of love within society, the reality of Vinnie and Jono's relationship and what issues committed gay couples face in modern society, all the while featuring the hilariously endearing day-to-day moments of The Doctor & his Wife.

THE PROOF PUDDING IS RIGHT HERE:
The success and reach of the first film is proof that this project is a great one to get behind. Here are some of the facts and achievements that Jonathan managed to accomplish with "The Doctor's Wife."

The Doctor’s Wife was made for under AU$10,000

The first public screening of the film was at the Hollywood Fringe Festival [Film] in 2011.

The soundtrack to the first film is almost entirely composed by Jonathan Duffy, who found it difficult to get record labels to return his calls during the editing process (this soundtrack is to be released soon)

The first film has made it into the official selections of;

Perth Pride Film Festival

Mardi Gras Film Festival

Tropical Alternatives Film Festival

Spring Out Canberra

Hollywood Fringe Festival [Film]

Oregon Queer Film Festival (Portland, USA)

Ogunquit Rainbow Film Festival (Maine, USA)

The Doctor's Wife also won the Award of Excellence in Filmmaking at the 2012 Canada International Film Festival.

The Doctor's Wife has been lent to several charities to use for fundraising.

In 2011 a screening of “The Doctor’s Wife” in Brisbane raised nearly $3000 for the GLWA (Gay and Lesbian Welfare Association) who provide essential crisis counselling to the community over the phone.

The film has screened in many Regional and remote locations throughout Australia, it was also used as a fundraiser for Anything But Straight Roma.

Recently Jonathan lent the film to An Afternoon Out, An initiative to assist GLBTIQ people aged between 16 and 25, to gain access to essential support, information and meet other GLBTIQ people and allies.

The Doctor's Wife has also screened in Rural Vitoria for the Hobson's Bay City Council in conjunction with the Aids Council of Victoria, to celebrate IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia)

In 2011 Jonathan was awarded with the Rev. Ivor Holmans Memorial Keystone Award in recognition of his valuable contribution to the Gay & Lesbian Welfare Association.

Jonathan has also screened the film and spoken about battling homophobia for many organisations throughout Australia including; Equal Love Brisbane, Tropical Medical Training, Gay Savvy, Queensland Pride Magazine and Joy FM.

Jonathan has also used his film skills and public profile to assist other organisations in the fight for equality. In 2012, Jonathan produced a series of videos outlining the funding cuts to the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC) entitled "The Tip of the Iceberg."

In February 2012 it was officially announced that "The Doctor's Wife" was to be internationally distributed through leading GLBTIQ production company and distribution house "Guest House Films LLC." The current US and Canada release date for "The Doctor's Wife" DVD is November 13, 2012. International and Australian distribution dates are yet to be confirmed.

Director; Co-Writer; The Doctor's Wife:

Jonathan Harland Duffy was born in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. From a young age, Jonathan developed a keen interest in performance and this saw him commence acting tuition at the age of eight. Jonathan had hopes to carve a career for himself as an actor but found the industry difficult for someone who is openly gay. At the age of 20, Jonathan was focused on training and teaching acting to children until he met his partner, Vincent Cornelisse. Cornelisse, a Doctor, had a mandatory placement in rural Australia. Jonathan transitioned to the role of filmmaker in order to support his partner in this Journey. The Doctor’s Wife was Jonathan’s first feature Documentary where he was not only the director, he is also the writer, producer and editor. During post production, Jonathan found it difficult to deal with record labels to negotiate the use of music and was uninspired by the available royalty free music. This lead to him scoring much of the soundtrack to the film himself, including the film’s opening song, “The Doctor’s Wife Overture.” Emma thinks Jonathan is too talented for his own good.

Producer; Co-Writer:

Emma Macdonald Gibbs was born in Noosa, Queensland Australia. From a young age Emma developed a passion for storytelling and organising. After graduating from QUT with a Bachelor of Creative Industries: Television (Film) with Distinction, Emma became Head of Development for a Brisbane-based production company and its' financing sister company. As a Producer-in-training, Emma's roles were many and varied and she stayed with the company until April of 2012 when she left to pursue her own projects. Emma is also a writer currently exploring undersea adventures, marriage equality (of course), dystopian futures, ill-named townsfolk and matters of the heart. She is, as Jono lovingly calls her, a straight girl with a guy-brain, Jono's work-wife and the third wheel in the VJ relationship.

Executive Producer; The Doctor:

Vincent Cornelisse was born in Bergen op Zoom, Noord Brabant The Netherlands. He is the sexy older man of The Doctor's Wife family and a doctor. He financially and lovingly supports Jono's projects, is the (reluctant) other star of The Doctor's Wife 2: Our Big Gay Country Wedding and a classically trained penis  pianist.

The Doctor's Wife 2: Our Big Gay Country Wedding is currently in development and will commence production in late 2012, to be released in 2013.
